Digi International and Wind River teamed together on the M2M Solution Builder kit, which is a new family of cloud-connected wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions. The kit integrates iDigi Device Cloud with Wind River software. The M2M Solution Builder kits will help developers and OEM’s to quickly build connected products and cloud-enabled services. The M2M Solution Builder kit will be available in June 2012.
Wind River rolled out Wind River Linux 4, Update Pack 2. The commercial embedded Linux runtime and development platform includes a fully integrated graphics software stack, from the board to the user interface framework level, for the latest Intel and Texas Instruments’ processors. The pre-integrated graphics stack features GTK, Qt, X.Org and the Wind River Tilcon Graphics Suite. The stack is optimized for embedded development.
Wind River announced a new version of their platform for infotainment. The Wind River Platform for Infotainment is a software platform that enables automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers to develop in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) devices. Wind River Platform for Infotainment is one of the first GENIVI-compliant automotive solutions. The GENIVI Alliance is a nonprofit organization focused on increasing the adoption of an in-vehicle infotainment reference platform.
Wind River has teamed with VIA Telecom on a multiyear project, codenamed Kunlun, to help bring low-cost Android smartphones featuring high-end capabilities to regional original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for the Chinese code division multiple access (CDMA) market. The collaboration delivers an integrated software and hardware Android solution to help OEMs meet network operator requirements and deliver Android devices to market faster with greater engineering efficiencies.
Wind River, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, announced support for Microsoft Windows XP as a guest operating system for Wind River Hypervisor on Intel®-based platforms. Device and systems manufacturers can now run Windows XP simultaneously with other operating systems such as VxWorks or Wind River Linux on a single piece of silicon, to reduce their bill of materials, energy consumption and maintenance costs.
GE Intelligent Platforms announced support for the latest VxWorks 653 Platform, Wind River’s real-time operating environment for controlling complex, safety-critical, ARINC 653 Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) systems. The VxWorks 653 platform is used in more than 180 subsystems by over 100 customers worldwide in more than 40 airframes, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner[tm]. The new platform’s innovative technology – now available for the first time for single board computers based on the Intel® Core[tm] 2 Duo processor – will provide GE Intelligent Platforms’ customers with an important competitive advantage in developing and delivering civil and military solutions that require the highest levels of safety certification while reducing program risk, shortening time-to-market and minimizing expense.
Wind River launched its Partner Validation Program for the aerospace and defense market segment with initial partners AdaCore, aicas, ALT Software, Atego, Esterel Technologies, Presagis and PrismTech. Partners in the program will provide their software solutions integrated and validated with the latest releases of Wind River’s industry leading operating systems, VxWorks and Wind River Linux. These partner software solutions are specifically developed for avionics, secure military communications, unmanned systems, and complex control systems.

This is the first release of the Aonix ObjectAda product with full Ada runtime support for the Wind River safety-critical platform.
Wind River, a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel Corporation, announced it will add the Virtutech product line to its embedded software product portfolio after the completion of Intel Corporation’s acquisition of Virtutech signed earlier this week. Virtutech, founded in 1998, is based in San Jose, Calif. and operates a development center in Stockholm, Sweden.
