Analog Devices launched the AD514x and AD512x series of non-volatile single-, dual- and quad-channel digital potentiometers. The ADI digiPOT devices feature resistance tolerance of ±1 percent (typical). The AD514x and AD512x series improves component matching in industrial and communication control systems. Digital POT devices can be used to calibrate system tolerances or dynamically control system parameters. Nonvolatile memory digital potentiometers provide wiper setting retention after a power OFF to ON cycle. In addition, fuse link parts offer a one time program trimmer feature.
The WIZnet WizFi630 is a high-performance embedded Wi-Fi gateway module. The board transforms RS-232 and TCP/IP protocol into IEEE802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN protocol. WizFi630 enables a device with a RS-232 serial interface to connect to LAN or WLAN for remote control, measurement, and administration. WizFi630 can also operate as an IP router due to its internally embedded switch. WizFi630 WiFi modules are available now. Prices start at $35.
Microchip Technology announced six new devices. Four of the devices are the 23A1024, 23LC1024, 23A512 and 23LC512 serial SRAM. The other two devices are the 23LCV512 and 23LCV1024 serial NVSRAM. Prices start at $1.16 each for the four volatile devices in 10,000-unit quantities. The 23A1024 and 23LC1024 are available now for sampling and volume production. The 23A512 and 23LC512 will be available for sampling and volume production in October of this year. The two non-volatile, unlimited-endurance RAM are priced at $1.32 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Sampling and volume production of the non-volatile devices will begin in October.
National Instruments introduced Data Dashboard for LabVIEW mobile apps. The apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices help engineers integrate the latest mobile technology into their applications. The NI Data Dashboard for LabVIEW mobile apps help engineers access measurement data from data acquisition and embedded monitoring systems. The new apps combine the portability, ease of use, faster start-up time and longer battery longevity of mobile devices with the power of LabVIEW.
yaSSL is making their IT-level security tools available for the Open Source Community. The company is doing this to ensure that mature, advanced security tools like Kerberos, wpa_supplicant, and OpenSSH are readily available for devices. By bringing widely adopted standards like Kerberos, OpenSSH, and wpa_supplicant to developers, yaSSL provides developers the resources they need to easily integrate their applications with the larger enterprise infrastructure and market.
According to a IHS iSuppli report, sensor fusion will eventually power the next generation of iPhone and iPad devices. A fused signal combines the outputs of three types of Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) motion sensors (gyroscopes, accelerometers and compasses) to improve the motion-based interface. Sensor fusion could enhance interfaces of any tablet or smartphone that uses a combination of a 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis compass and 3-axis gyroscope to provide 9-axis sensor fusion.
ITTIA DB SQL database for embedded systems and intelligent devices is now available on Google Android. ITTIA DB SQL offers high-throughput write operations, large data set scalability, in-memory table performance, and synchronize with other devices and back-end databases. It is an enhanced alternative to Android’s built-in data storage. A free copy of ITTIA DB SQL for Android is available now for evaluation.
3D is finally becoming a mainstream technology thanks to gaming and video content. According to In-Stat, 3D devices (handheld game consoles, smartphones, and tablets) will drive the demand for image sensors by over 130%. True 3D requires at least two image sensors, one for each imaging solution. That means four image sensors (two front facing and two rear facing) are required for a full 3D experience. Several mobile devices with four image sensors have already been introduced and many more are slated for introduction throughout 2011 and 2012.
