ARM and Cadence Design Systems teamed on the first ARM Cortex-A57 processor for TSMC’s 16-nanometer (nm) FinFET manufacturing process. The test chip was implemented using the complete Cadence RTL-to-signoff flow, Cadence Virtuoso custom design platform, ARM Artisan standard cell libraries and TSMC’s memory macros. Their joint innovations will enable engineers to accelerate product development cycles and take advantage of leading-edge processes and IP.
Synopsys has acquired privately held RSoft Design Group. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. RSoft Design Group is a leader in photonics design automation software. Industries there serve include optical communication, optoelectronics and semiconductor manufacturing. RSoft also offers design tools for passive and active optoelectronics components and subsystems as well as advanced electromagnetic modeling software for optical metrology and lithography. RSoft Design Group is headquartered in Ossining, New York.
Premier Farnell introduced element14 knode, which is an online design platform for electronic design engineers. element14 knode features resources for research, design, development and prototype manufacturing. The online platform automates the creation of explicit dependencies and inter-relationships with other system level components to quickly build a custom design flow. knode, which is short for KNOwledge for Design Engineers, offers a single environment for the entire design flow.
