Excel Software Updates QuickCRC, QuickUML Tools

Excel Software is shipping an update to the QuickCRC and QuickUML tools to design object-oriented software on Mac OS X or Windows computers. The updates include a new installer, interface enhancements, add and delete diagram buttons and a reduced price of $195 each. The Mac edition is a Universal Binary application optimized for both PPC and Intel based Mac OS X computers. The Windows edition runs on XP or Vista. CRC cards or UML models can be edited from Mac or Windows. CRC cards exported from QuickCRC can be imported into QuickUML to generate a UML model.

VDC Research Group Publishes Report on Software, System Modeling Tools

Recently published research by VDC Research Group indicates that the automotive industry will represent the largest vertical market, as a percentage of total market revenue, for software and system modeling tools by 2010. VDC defines the software and system modeling tool market to include both standard (UML, SysML, SDL, etc.) and proprietary (MATLAB, SCADE, LabVIEW, etc.) language-based modeling solutions intended to facilitate the process of developing embedded software and systems.

UPDM Group Forms for Unified Profile for DoDAF and MODAF

A new industry standards group – the UPDM Group – has been established to build on previous efforts within the Object Management Group (OMG) to develop a modeling standard that supports both the US Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and the UK’s Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework (MODAF). The modeling standard is called the Unified Profile for DoDAF and MODAF (UPDM). The group’s mission statement is the following: “The UPDM Group is committed to creating a unified profile for MODAF and DoDAF, leveraging the capabilities of UML, SysML and other OMG standards.”

Telelogic to Showcase UML Modeling Tools at Embedded Masterclass

UML company, Telelogic (now owned by IBM), will be presenting their UML modelling tools at the technology developer’s event, the Embedded Masterclass. This event is to be held in both London and Bristol on May 8th and 13th.
