SMIC, TSMC Resolve All Pending Lawsuits
Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (the “Company” or “SMIC”) announced that it entered into a settlement agreement with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd. (the “Acquiror” or “TSMC”) to resolve all pending lawsuits between the parties, including the legal action filed by TSMC in California (the “California Case”) for which a verdict was returned by the jury against SMIC on 4 November 2009 and the legal action filed by SMIC in Beijing (the “Beijing Case”).
UCLA Engineering Students Win element14 Live EDGE Competition
UCLA Engineering and element14, a new online technology resource and community for electronic design engineers, announce that three students at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science were selected to receive $2,500 Live EDGE scholarships to help further their educations in electrical and electronics engineering. GE Fanuc Automation Joint Venture Dissolves
GE (NYSE: GE) and FANUC announced that the two companies have agreed to dissolve the GE Fanuc Automation Corporation joint venture. This agreement would allow each company to refocus its investments to grow its existing businesses and pursue its respective core industry expertise. GE and FANUC expect the transaction to be completed by the end of this year, subject to satisfactory customary closing conditions.

OpenVPX Industry Working Group Opens Membership to Technical Working Group
The OpenVPX Industry Working Group, an alliance of leading-edge defense prime contractors and embedded computing systems suppliers, announced it has opened membership to its Technical Working Group, effectively immediately. The OpenVPX Industry Working Group was recently launched to take a proactive approach in addressing the VPX system-level interoperability issues associated with the VPX (VITA 46) family of specifications. At its inaugural meeting held in Dallas, Texas last week, members of the anticipated Steering Committee, which is in the final stage of formation, set forth guidelines for the OpenVPX Industry Working Group’s organizational structure, policies, and development of a system specification with a completion goal of October 2009. The recommendations were submitted to meeting participants on day two of the assembly.
