Bel Power Selects Microchip MCP6291 Op Amp, PIC12F675 PIC Microcontroller

Microchip Technology Inc. [NASDAQ: MCHP], a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, announced that Bel Power Inc. has selected its MCP6291 low-power, high-bandwidth operational amplifier (op amp) and PIC12F675 microcontroller (MCU) for its next-generation Power over Ethernet (PoE) half-brick DC-to-DC converter. The op amp is part of the current-sensing circuit in the converter; while the 8-bit PIC® MCU provides system monitoring, fault detection and correction, and automated functions. Bel Power selected Microchip because of its broad product portfolio, excellent development tools and superior technical support.

Renesas Rolls Out Ten New H8SX Microcontrollers

Renesas Technology America, Inc. introduced ten new microcontrollers (MCUs) in the H8SX family that provide a faster analog-to-digital (A/D) converter and a more precise digital-to-analog (D/A) converter. The new 32-bit, 50MHz devices give embedded systems better analog signal-processing capabilities for interfacing to TFT displays, sensors, scanners, and other types of input/output elements found in PCs, digital consumer products, office automation (OA) and industrial equipment. The new CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer) MCUs are members of the H8SX/1645, H8SX/1635, H8SX/1665, and H8SX/1655 product groups.

EEMBC Reveals Benchmark Scores for Freescale i.MX31 with ARM Compiler

The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) announced the publication of new certified benchmark scores for the ARM processor-based Freescale i.MX31 multimedia applications processor. Tested with the ARM® RealView® RVCT 3.1 build 559 compiler, the new results supersede a previous set of certified scores using a GCC version 3.43 compiler and limited –O2 optimizations.

Renesas Optimizes SH77650 SoC Device for In-Vehicle Image Recognition

The new device enables the production of more affordable vehicle information terminals, particularly the next-generation car navigation systems and peripheral devices that can help increase driving safety.
