Imec, Holst Centre to Present Papers at International Solid-State Circuits Conference

Imec and Holst Centre will present at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference next week in San Francisco, California. They will present fourteen papers on low power design for wireless communication and wireless sensor networks, and organic electronics. In addition, imec and Holst Centre will also reveal other important breakthroughs in wireless communication and wireless sensor networks, and organic electronics.

The 2012 Design Automation Conference has issued a call for submissions. This includes user track submissions, wild and crazy ideas (WACI) submissions, special session, panel and tutorial proposals and co-located events. There are different deadlines for the various categories. The first deadline is November 2, 2011. DAC 2012 will take place June 3-7, 2012 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California.

Freescale Make It Challenge Design Contest

Freescale Semiconductor is holding a design contest called Make It Challenge. There are two tracks in the competition: (1) Mechatronics Robot Track and (2) Tower System Track. Each track will award one prize each to first, second and third place winning contestants. A Grand Prize winning contestant will also be selected from the two first prize winners. The grand prize is a Freescale Motorsports VIP Weekend package. First place winners will receive $3,000; second place will win $2,000, and third place will receive $1,000.

The OpenWorld application design contest, sponsored primarily by STMicroelectronics, features $20,000 in cash prizes. The prizes will be awarded for the most innovative and useful electronic applications designed to assist people, with any variety of disabilities or medical conditions, to access public places or services and help them participate actively in daily life. Concept entries must be submitted by May 15, 2011. The best application concepts will win tools for creating applications including the latest EvoPrimer with STM32 processor and a complete software tool chain (C compiler, Ride integrated development environment with debugging and programming interfaces). The finished project deadline is December 14, 2011.

Steve Wozniak’s interview will take place on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 2:00pm. DAC will take place in San Diego, California, from June 5-10, 2011.

Design Automation Conference Work-in-Progress Presentations

The 2011 Design Automation Conference (DAC) will feature a Work-in-Progress (WIP) interactive track. The WIP track gives engineers the opportunity to present and discuss current work and early results. WIP submissions must address a technical problem, outline a solution, and provide some early results. Accepted WIP submissions will be presented at an interactive poster session open to the DAC community. The deadline for WIP submissions is 5pm MST Friday, March 1, 2011. The DAC 2011 will take place June 5-10, 2011 in San Diego, California.

PZFlex Opens Student Innovation Competition to Universities Worldwide

The PZFlex group of U.S. engineering firm Weidlinger Associates®, Inc., based in Mountain View, California, is accepting submissions for its Second Annual PZFlex® Student Innovation Competition. Students are invited to submit a proposal for investigation of a technology using PZFlex®, Weidlinger’s 3D virtual prototyping simulation software package. The competition is intended to inspire novel uses for PZFlex® in solving complex engineering problems. The winner will receive a personal Dell laptop computer, while the student’s academic institution will receive a year’s free license of PZFlex with which to conduct his or her research.

SEMATECH to Report on Resistive RAM Memory and FinFET Devices at IEDM

Revealing research breakthroughs, engineers from SEMATECH’s Front End Processes (FEP) program will present technical papers at the 56th annual IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM) from December 6-8, 2010, at the Hilton in San Francisco, CA. SEMATECH experts will report on resistive RAM (RRAM) memory technologies, advanced Fin and nanowire FETs for scaled CMOS devices, high mobility III-V channel materials on 200mm silicon wafers in an industry standard MOSFET flow, and future ultra-low power tunneling FET devices — highlighting significant breakthroughs that address the growing need for higher performance and low power devices.
