AVIX-RT, the company behind the AVIX RTOS, today announced AVIX support for the IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM (IAR EWARM). The ultra-fast AVIX RTOS, which targets all commercially available Cortex-M3 microcontrollers, is a perfect match for IAR EWARM. In addition to enabling AVIX based applications development, AVIX-RT provides a kernel aware plug-in for the IAR EWARM environment. This plug-in seamlessly integrates with IAR EWARM and can be controlled entirely from within this environment. Using IAR EWARM combined with the AVIX plug-in allows for interactive monitoring of the status of all AVIX kernel objects through the plug-in provided Graphical User Interface.

NEC and Tohoku University have developed the first content addressable memory (CAM) that both maintains the same high operation speed and non-volatile operation as existing circuits when processing and storing data on a circuit while power is off. The content addressable memory is a part of spintronics logic integrated circuit technologies that utilize the negative properties of electrons together with the spin magnetic moment. NEC’s new CAM utilizes the vertical magnetization of vertical domain wall elements in reaction to magnetic substances in order to enable data that is processing within the CAM to be stored on a circuit without using power.

Synopsys introduced version 10.3 of their CODE V optical design and analysis software. CODE V is an optical engineering and design software. It is used for the optimization, analysis, and tolerancing of image-forming optical systems and free-space photonic devices. CODE V 10.3 features new aspheric design tools. Aspheric surface shapes are used to help reduce or eliminate imperfect or blurred images in optical systems. An aspheric lens can be used to replace multiple spherical lenses. The CODE V 10.3 is available now.

X-FAB has acquired 25.5% share of MEMS Foundry Itzehoe GmbH (MFI). X-FAB has the option to become the majority shareholder at a later date. The two companies will join forces to address the market for high-volume MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) and will combine their existing MEMS foundry capabilities and resources. The joint cooperation we will close the gap between microelectronics and pure MEMS foundry services. With combined resources, X-FAB’s goal is to increase annual MEMS revenue to over $50 million in the next five years.
