DSM Somos Impact Tests Rapid Prototyping Materials

As rapid prototyping (RP) moves closer toward direct manufacturing, stereolithography (SL) resin leader DSM Somos is working to increase industry awareness around the impact testing of SL resins for the better evaluation of material performance. At the recent 2008 3DSUG conference in Costa Mesa, CA, DSM Somos made the information tangible with live test demonstrations in which RP users were invited to put various materials up against Somos' latest high-impact SL resin, DMX-SLT 100, in Gardner impact tests*.

Elma Electronic Announces Rugged MicroTCA ARINC 404A ATR Long Chassis

Elma Electronic Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic packaging products, has announced a ruggedized ATR chassis for MicroTCA. The new MicroTCA chassis is an ARINC 404A Full-Size ATR Long Enclosure, often used in commercial and military aviation. The rugged enclosure features modified front panels that can be secured to the chassis. This provides more protection for shock and vibration. Shock absorbers/dampers can also be added to the enclosure for extra protection. Thermal management can be achieved via either convection or conduction-cooling.

Elma Announces Extruded AdvancedTCA Front Panels

Elma Electronic Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic packaging products, has announced AdvancedTCA (ATCA) front panels that offer a more precise and finished look that typical stamped sheet metal versions. Elma offers the extruded ATCA panels in two versions. The first version has a .5 mm deep channel for overlays (typically a printed lexan substrate with pressure-sensitive adhesive on the back side) to be placed. The other version is for silk-screening /painting and does not have a channel.
