Energy Micro is offering free samples of their EFM32 Gecko series microcontrollers (MCUs). The samples are available to qualified individuals worldwide. There is no additional charges for shipping, and lead time is only a few days. Energy Micro’s sampling program currently consists of the Gecko, Tiny Gecko, Leopard Gecko and Giant Gecko families. The EFM32 series is based on the ARM Cortex-M series of processors, and consisting of over 240 variants.
There are a couple of catches to this free sample promotion. First, you can only request two sample parts per order. Second, you can only request one sample of each item on an order. Lastly, you can only make two two sample request in a 30-day period. Note: Energy Micro reserves the right to evaluate all sample requests prior to fulfillment. You also have to use your company e-mail address (Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail addresses will be rejected). If approved, your samples should arrive in three business days.
Energy Micro’s processors are aimed at energy sensitive applications such as smart metering, building automation, security systems, portable health and fitness equipment and smart accessories. Devices in the EFM32 Gecko range consume as little as 150µA/MHz in active mode and feature numerous energy-efficient peripherals, including an on-chip LCD controller, USB interface and a low power yet autonomous sensor monitoring system named LESENSE. The low energy LESENSE interface can be used even in deep sleep modes, requiring as little as 1µA to enable intelligent and conditional wake up of the MCU.
