AWR Publishes White Paper on Visual System Simulator Co-simulating with NI LabVIEW

AWR has published a white paper. The new article is titled, AWR’s Visual System Simulator Co-simulates with NI’s LabVIEW for Enhanced Signal Processing Capabilities. The technical paper highlights how AWR’s Visual System Simulator (VSS) software and National Instruments’ (NI) LabVIEW graphical programming environment co-simulate and enable designers to analyze, optimize, and verify complex RF circuits, subsystems and digital signal processing within a unified framework.

Digi International rolled out iDigi Connector, which is a free software download that enables devices to seamlessly connect to the iDigi Device Cloud. iDigi Connector works with any device, regardless of manufacturer or operating system. As a result, any device, anywhere, can now connect to any Internet application. The iDigi Connector makes the iDigi Device Cloud a completely open platform and extends the benefits of cloud connectivity to any device.

Panasonic, Red Bend Software Protect Personal Data on Android Smartphones

Panasonic teamed with Red Bend Software to develop a new solution to protect personal data such as photos, videos, documents and emails stored on Android smartphones. The new solution will be integrated into its future smartphone models. The solution prevent leakage of personal data from lost smartphones and unintended behavior of downloaded applications.

Imec and Renesas Develop Super Low Power SAR ADC

Imec and Renesas Electronics teamed together to develop a successive-approximation register analog to digital converter. The new ADC is an ultra-low power (1.7mWatt) high resolution (11b) fully-dynamic, two-step interleaved pipelined SAR ADC with a record power efficiency of 10fJoule per conversion step at a sampling speed as high as 250MSamples/s. The SAR ADC is ideal for wireless receivers for next-generation high-bandwidth standards such as LTE-advanced and the emerging generation of Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11ac).

Smartphones with Quad-core Processors Coming Soon

According to Berg Insight, smartphones with dual-core application processors had sales of 60 million units worldwide in 2011. At the start of last year, the first smartphones with dual-core processors were launched. Now, about a year later, several handset vendors are expected to announce their first smartphones with quad-core processors. Quad-core processors will eventually accelerate adoption of dual-core processors for the mid-range smartphone segment.

Summit Microelectronics Debuts SMB206A and SMB210A Programmable DC-DC Buck Regulators

Summit Microelectronics introduced the SMB206A and SMB210A programmable DC-DC integrated circuits. The SMB206A/SMB210A ICs integrate single or dual step-down DC-DC buck regulators with on-board MOSFET(s) supplying up dual 3A+3A (SMB206A), or single 6A (SMB210A) output currents. The SMB206A and SMB210A DC-DC regulators are available now in a tiny thermally enhanced, RoHS-compliant, lead-free 3mm X 3mm, 20-pad QFN. The SMB206A is priced $1.20 each, while the SMB210A is priced at $1.10 (in quantities of 10,000 units).

The company is doing this to ensure that mature, advanced security tools like Kerberos, wpa_supplicant, and OpenSSH are readily available for devices. By bringing widely adopted standards like Kerberos, OpenSSH, and wpa_supplicant to developers, yaSSL provides developers the resources they need to easily integrate their applications with the larger enterprise infrastructure and market.

Imec, Holst Centre to Present Papers at International Solid-State Circuits Conference

Microchip Unveils SST12LF03 RF Front-End Module for WLAN IEEE 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth

Microchip Technology introduced their SST12LF03 RF front-end module for WLAN IEEE 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth systems. The SST12LF03 includes a transmitter power amplifier, a receiver low-noise amplifier (LNA) and a low-loss antenna switch — in one integrated, compact package. The high level of integration simplifies board design and extends the range of wireless systems. It is ideal for WLAN/BT embedded applications where small size and high performance are required. The new Microchip device is available in a 20-pin, 3mm x 3mm UQFN package for $0.61 each (10,000-unit quantities). Samples and volume-production quantities are available now.

Low-Cost Android Smartphones to Account for 80% of Market in Some Areas

According to a NPD In-Stat research report, Less is More: The Worldwide Emergence of Low-Cost Android Smartphones, low-cost Android handsets will reach a penetration rate of 80% of total smartphones in Africa, India, and China by 2015. Low-cost Android will flourish in these emerging areas. However, it will face heavy competition in some regions. Samsung has bada, and Nokia is developing Meltemi. In addition, Microsoft has stated that it wants to sell Windows Phone in developing regions as well and could aggressively lower prices to gain market share.
