Microchip RE46C180 Smoke Detector IC

Microchip Technology introduced the RE46C180 smoke detector IC. The RE46C180 is the first ionization smoke-detector IC with programmable calibration and programmable feature selection. It is also the first with horn synchronization and auto alarm locate. The Microchip RE46C180 ASIC is available now in 16-pin PDIP and SOIC packages. Prices start at $0.82 each (10,000-unit quantities). The smoke detector chip enables designers to develop and manufacture residential and commercial smoke detectors using a single IC and PCB.

The Microchip RE46C180 smoke detector IC’s programmable calibration reduces component counts and makes it easier to set up smoke detectors during manufacturing. The programmable features enable one chip to be used for multiple smoke-detector models, including models with different battery types, horn patterns and other features. The IC’s horn synchronization helps engineers to easily synchronize temporal horn patterns in multiple-detector systems. Auto alarm locate allows the users of multiple-detector systems to quickly identify the smoke detector causing the alarm and assess the threat.
