Freescale Semiconductor is holding a design contest called Make It Challenge. There are two tracks in the competition: (1) Mechatronics Robot Track and (2) Tower System Track. Each track will award one prize each to first, second and third place winning contestants. A Grand Prize winning contestant will also be selected from the two first prize winners. The grand prize is a Freescale Motorsports VIP Weekend package. First place winners will receive $3,000; second place will win $2,000, and third place will receive $1,000.
The Make It Challenge design contest will take place at the Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) June 20-23 in San Antonio, Texas. To enter the contest, engineers need to develop and submit a unique sensor robotic or system design based on Freescale’s latest sensor development kit in the form of a walking robot or the Freescale Tower System.
The design contest is limited to the first 200 registrants (100 per track). Contestants can enter one or both tracks. Each participant in the Mechatronics Robot Track will receive the Freescale robot (FSLBOT) that contains the Tower Mechatronics board (TWR-MECH) and FSLBOT code. Participants in the Tower System Track will receive a Tower System kit containing one controller module selected by the contestant. Participants in both tracks will have access to the on-site FTF Make It Lab, where they can work on their designs and interact with Freescale technology experts.
The deadline to enter is June 22, 2011 at 4 p.m. CDT. Only entry per track is allowed. Entries will be judged on application innovation, creativity, and integration of different elements of the tool kit provided. Joe Grand, electrical engineer, former host of Discovery Channel’s Prototype This! and president of Grand Idea Studio, will help judge the designs.
