X-FAB Acquires 25.5% of MFI, Combines MEMS Foundry Resources

X-FAB has acquired 25.5% share of MEMS Foundry Itzehoe GmbH (MFI). X-FAB has the option to become the majority shareholder at a later date. The two companies will join forces to address the market for high-volume MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) and will combine their existing MEMS foundry capabilities and resources. The joint cooperation we will close the gap between microelectronics and pure MEMS foundry services. With combined resources, X-FAB’s goal is to increase annual MEMS revenue to over $50 million in the next five years.

Joint Cooperation Highlights

  • Opens up new business opportunities for X-FAB and MFI
  • Complements the two companies existing technical capabilities and manufacturing capacities
  • X-FAB broadens and expands its MEMS foundry service through the technical capabilities of MFI
  • X-FAB accelerates its rapid expansion in high-volume MEMS manufacturing
  • MFI gains access to X-FAB’s analog and mixed-signal silicon foundry and MEMS device manufacturing services
  • Plans to increase combined annual MEMS revenue to $50+ million in the next five years
  • Extends X-FAB’s MEMS capabilities across a wide range of 8-inch MEMS technologies for MEMS development and manufacturing
  • Closes the gap between microelectronics and pure MEMS foundry services
  • MFI will maintain close ties to Fraunhofer ISIT MEMS research and development center
