The acquisition also enables CSR to substantially strengthen its offering in the growing real-time streaming audio market for mobile and wireless consumer applications and support its expansion into broader audio markets.
SPEculative and Exploratory Design in Systems Engineering Project
The four-year SPEEDS (SPEculative and Exploratory Design in Systems Engineering) project, funded under the European Union’s 6th Framework Programme, has come to a highly successful conclusion. The SPEEDS project has resulted in the definition of a novel end-to-end design methodology, process and tool environment for model-based safety-critical embedded systems that significantly improves design quality while reducing both design cycle times and costs.
Khronos Group Rolls Out OpenGL 4.1 Graphics Specification
The Khronos[tm] Group announced the immediate release of the OpenGL® 4.1 specification, bringing the very latest graphics functionality to the most advanced and widely adopted cross-platform 2D and 3D graphics API (application programming interface). OpenGL 4.1 is the sixth update to OpenGL specification in two years, continuing the rapid evolution of this royalty-free specification. This new version continues to maintain full backwards compatibility to enable developers to begin using new features whenever they choose, while portably accessing state-of-the-art GPU functionality across diverse operating systems and platforms.
Foveon Tapes Out Direct Image Sensor with Galaxy Custom Designer
Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, announced that Foveon Inc., a world innovator in the design and development of image sensors and image capture systems, has taped out its newest-generation direct image sensor using Synopsys’ Galaxy Custom Designer® solution. The Foveon X3® direct image sensor, used in high-end consumer cameras such as Sigma’s SD15 digital SLR camera, has over 14 million pixels and is implemented on a 180-nanometer (nm) CMOS die. Foveon chose Synopsys’ custom design solution to replace its existing solution to accelerate time-to-tapeout. The open environment of the Custom Designer solution provided Foveon with a rapid, low-risk path to migrate from its incumbent solution and complete tapeout in fewer than two months.
