PDF Solutions Adopts Magma Titan Mixed-Signal Design Platform

Magma® Design Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design software, announced that PDF Solutions® Inc. (Nasdaq: PDFS), the leading provider of yield improvement technologies and services for the integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing process life cycle, selected the Titan[tm] Mixed-Signal Design Platform to improve time to yield for systems on chip (SoCs). PDF Solutions chose the Magma software after an extensive evaluation. PDF Solutions plans to use Titan to shorten the design process for delivering first-time-right Characterization Vehicle® test chips. PDF Solutions will also use Titan[tm] for developing digital and analog library cells with predictable silicon behavior based on PDF Solutions’ proprietary pdBRIX[tm] regular layout patterning solution.

PDF Solutions’ adoption of Magma’s Titan Mixed-Signal Platform is the first step in a closer collaboration between the two companies to address mixed-signal SoC design and manufacturing challenges. The companies are working to tighten interoperability between Titan and the process and layout information generated by PDF Solutions’ CV® test chips and the pdBRIX[tm] library creation flow.

“Our clients’ SoC designs require predictable electrical and yield performance from their analog and digital blocks,” said Kimon Michaels, vice president of Design For Manufacturability at PDF Solutions. “Titan offers a rich feature set and programmable customization environment to integrate with PDF Solutions’ silicon characterization flow and pdBRIX[tm] design flow. Titan will enable us to help our clients ramp up production faster.”

“Design teams everywhere are being challenged to incorporate more functionality into their SoCs without lengthening the design cycle, increasing costs or adding resources,” said Anirudh Devgan, general manager of Magma’s Custom Design Business Unit. “The value Magma’s next-generation Titan mixed-signal platform adds to PDF Solutions’ capabilities helps enable designers to improve productivity and turnaround time while reducing costs.”

The Titan Mixed-Signal Solution: Integrating Analog and Digital implementation
Titan is the industry’s first platform to truly integrate analog design, digital implementation and verification. With automated mixed-signal assembly and verification, Titan provides an order-of-magnitude productivity improvement over other analog flows. Titan is a unified mixed-signal design cockpit with very high capacity and a very fast database access mechanism. By fully embedding Talus®, Titan combines the high-level efficiency of Magma’s digital implementation tools with full-custom analog design tools. Titan comprises user-friendly full-custom schematic and layout editors, an analog simulation environment, correct-by-design schematic-driven layout (SDL) and integration with Magma tools for simulation and physical verification.
