Vishay Debuts Z203 Metrology, Laboratory Bulk Metal Z-Foil Resistors

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced a new series of metrology and laboratory ultra-high-precision Bulk Metal® Z-Foil resistors built using Z1-Foil technology that features new orders of accuracy, stability, and fast thermal stabilization in sizes small enough for permanent assembly in operational equipment. The Z203 devices feature a TCR of ± 0.5 ppm/°C maximum (+ 25 °C to + 125 °C), tolerances to 0.005 % (50 ppm), load-life stability of 0.005 % (50 ppm) at + 70 °C for 10,000 hours, and PCR (due to self-heating) of ± 5 ppm at a rated power of 0.6 W at + 70 °C and 0.3 W at + 125 °C.

PDF Solutions Adopts Magma Titan Mixed-Signal Design Platform

Magma® Design Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design software, announced that PDF Solutions® Inc. (Nasdaq: PDFS), the leading provider of yield improvement technologies and services for the integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing process life cycle, selected the Titan[tm] Mixed-Signal Design Platform to improve time to yield for systems on chip (SoCs). PDF Solutions chose the Magma software after an extensive evaluation. PDF Solutions plans to use Titan to shorten the design process for delivering first-time-right Characterization Vehicle® test chips. PDF Solutions will also use Titan[tm] for developing digital and analog library cells with predictable silicon behavior based on PDF Solutions’ proprietary pdBRIX[tm] regular layout patterning solution.

Magma Design Automation and Chengdu ICC Open Joint Lab in China

Magma® Design Automation (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design software, and Chengdu ICC (CDICC), a government-funded organization that promotes integrated circuit (IC) design in Chengdu, announced the recent opening of a joint IC design lab. Established in the National IC Design Chengdu Industrial Base, one of seven technology incubation parks in China, the lab will provide local designers with access to Magma’s advanced analog and digital IC design software and comprehensive training programs.

IEEE Announces IEEE 1800-2009 Standard for Chip Design, Verification

IEEE, the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology, announced completion of IEEE 1800-2009[TM], a revision to an existing IEEE standard. The new IEEE 1800 defines a single, comprehensive standard language that is designed to help boost the productivity of electronic system design and verification engineers and make possible broader and improved Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools to more quickly bring complex system-on-chip (SOC) devices to market.

IPL Alliance Debuts Open Standard for Interoperable Process Design Kits

The Interoperable PDK Libraries (IPL) Alliance announced the release of the semiconductor industry’s first open standard for interoperable Process Design Kits (iPDKs). This release is a major accomplishment achieved through the collaboration of IPL Alliance member companies. Semiconductor foundries and integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) can use this standard to build a single iPDK that works with multiple OpenAccess-based custom design tools, reducing development costs and the need to support vendor-specific PDKs.

XMOS Announces Digital iPhone Dock Reference Design

CompactFlash Association Introduces CF5.0 Specification

The CompactFlash Association (CFA) announces availability of the recently approved CF5.0 Specification. The CF5.0 work group was formed in November, 2008 to add key features to the already popular CF4.1 specification based on the PATA (Parallel ATA) interface. The new CF5.0 specification adds the following key features/benefits to the memory card that started the digital photography revolution.
