Mitsubishi Electric Adopts Cadence OVM SystemVerilog Module Solution

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), the leader in global electronic design innovation, announced that Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has adopted Cadence® verification technology, including a unique adaptation of the Open Verification Methodology (OVM), that has helped cut verification time and improve ASIC product quality. By deploying the Cadence OVM SystemVerilog module-based solution, Mitsubishi has been able to conduct more thorough verification on its chips while reducing costs.

NXP, Intrinsic-ID Team on Hardware Intrinsic Security for SmartMX

NXP, a leading semiconductor provider for security solutions, and Intrinsic-ID, an emerging semiconductor intellectual property (IP) and services provider, announced a collaborative agreement to license and deploy a hardware intrinsic security (HIS) solution in NXP’s next-generation SmartMX[tm] security chip technology. The partnership enables NXP to utilize Intrinsic-ID’s Quiddikey[tm] solution to secure SmartMX-powered assets against cloning, tampering, theft-of-service and reverse engineering.

Argonne National Laboratory to Develop Neutron Transport Code UNIC

Ever wanted to see a nuclear reactor core in action? A new computer algorithm developed by researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory allows scientists to view nuclear fission in much finer detail than ever before. A team of nuclear engineers and computer scientists at Argonne National Laboratory are developing the neutron transport code UNIC, which enables researchers for the first time to obtain a highly detailed description of a nuclear reactor core.

ARM Processors to Power Netbooks, MIDs, Smartbooks, UMPCs in Future

While an estimated 90% of Ultra-mobile Devices (UMDs) shipped in 2009 were based on an x86 processor architecture, the introduction of ARM-based systems introduces greater choice and differentiation for system vendors. ABI Research forecasts that annual UMD shipments of netbooks, MIDs, smartbooks and UMPCs based on ARM instruction sets will overtake x86-based UMDs in 2013.

Carnegie Mellon University, Intel Debut Solder Magnetic Nanocomposites

Carnegie Mellon University and Intel Corporation will unveil a new class of materials called solder magnetic nanocomposites that could help streamline the process of computer electronic packaging. The milestone research will be discussed at the 11th annual Magnetism and Magnetics Materials Conference Jan. 18-22 at the Marriott Washington Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.

Hella Aglaia Selects Impulse C to FPGA Xilinx FPGAs for 3D Passenger

Impulse Accelerated Technologies announced that Hella Aglaia has completed a design for a Hella Aglaia computer vision 3D automatic passenger counting system using Impulse C to FPGA tools and Xilinx FPGAs in an ASIC prototyping flow. Based on 3D-Sense Technology Hella Aglaia’s self contained Automatic Passenger Counting System AVC 1 offers a counting accuracy greater than 98%. It is possible to verify all results at any time, through the comparison with video recordings.
