Apple iPad vs Amazon Kindle
Apple’s iPad announcement is big news. It’s a robust tablet form factor that is a half-inch thick and weighs 1.5 pounds, with a 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen IPS LCD display that supports 1024×768 VGA video. The ebook implementation is everything one would expect. The application can be downloaded from the App Store and the content is managed by the “iTunes” platform, so it seamlessly integrates e-book with the other popular personal content. All iBooks are stored on your Bookshelf. As you would expect, all books are displayed on a sharp, color screen with many personalization options.
Toshiba Standardizes on Verification Methodology Manual for Low Power
Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, announced that Toshiba Information Systems (Japan) has standardized on the Verification Methodology Manual for Low Power (VMM-LP) to verify its low power chip designs. Incorporating industry best practices from the collective real-life experiences of more than 30 companies, the VMM-LP provides a framework for accelerating the verification of low power designs. Wi-Fi IC Worldwide Shipments Grow by 28%
In 2009, worldwide shipments of Wi-Fi ICs increased approximately 28% compared to 2008, according to data from ABI Research. Total revenue achieved an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18% between 2009 and 2014. “Despite the uncertain macroeconomic situation, total market demand for Wi-Fi ICs is expected to keep growing,” says industry analyst Celia Bo. “The demand for Wi-Fi ICs in mobile devices and consumer electronic devices are the two key engines for Wi-Fi IC’s market growth.”
Blu-ray Player Revenue to Outgrow DVD Player Revenue by 4x
High-volume shipments of Blu-ray players, most of which feature network connectivity, are finally making inroads into the broader disc player and recorder market, reports In-Stat. By 2013, Blu-ray player shipments will still lag slightly behind the 90 million DVD player unit shipments. However, higher average selling prices will put Blu-ray player revenue at more than 4 times as large as DVD player revenue.
