Emerson Network Power Introduces AED/ALD13B50 Bus Converter
Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity[tm], expanded its intermediate bus converter (IBC) portfolio with the addition of its newest 12V sixteenth brick open-loop bus converter. The AED/ALD13B50 has a wide input voltage range of 38V to 60V and delivers up to 150W of high efficiency (95% typical) output power. Designed to drive a variety of converters and discrete solutions, Emerson’s latest fixed-ratio IBC offers optimized performance, efficiency and cost and is ideal for a range of applications, including low to mid-range routers, blade servers and other equipment in the datacom/networking market where distributed power architectures are employed.
Texas Instruments Debuts TPA3110D2 Filter Free, Class-D Audio Amplifier
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) introduced a 15-W stereo, true filter-free, analog-input, Class-D audio amplifier. The device’s advanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression technology eliminates the need for costly inductor-based output filters, reducing bill of materials (BOM) cost by as much as 50 percent. The TPA3110D2′s SpeakerGuard protection circuitry protects speakers from damage, helping to reduce end equipment customer returns and associated support costs. The device also features enhanced performance, making the TPA3110D2 an excellent choice for consumer audio applications, including HDTVs, media docking stations, digital radios and sound bars.
SemiSouth Receives Patent for SiC Power JFET
SemiSouth announced award of its third US Patent in 2009, and 18th overall in SiC Power Electronics technology. The patents cover methods of making normally-off SiC JFETs, self-aligned SiC fabrication methods, and integration of SiC JFET, diodes, and circuits. According to Dr. Jeff Casady, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Business Development, the recent patents were the result of focused efforts, led by SemiSouth engineers, in pushing the technology forward for both near-term and long-term products.
TSMC Makes Breakthrough with 28nm Functional 64Mb SRAM Yield
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd. (TWSE: 2330, NYSE: TSM) has become the first foundry not only to achieve 28nm functional 64Mb SRAM yield, but also to achieve it across all three 28nm nodes. “Achieving 64Mb SRAM yield across all three 28nm process nodes is striking. It is particularly noteworthy because this achievement demonstrates the manufacturing benefits of the gate-last approach that we developed for the two TSMC 28nm high-k metal gate processes,” explained Dr. Jack Sun, vice president, Research and Development at TSMC.

Excel Software has delivered QuickHelp 4.0 to author application help in any language that runs on Mac OS X or Windows computers. Help authoring requires no programming experience or HTML knowledge. Version 4.0 adds Unicode text to support any human language, the Merge Help tool to distribute work and combine help files and the Convert Language tool to help automate the process of translating a help system into other human languages.

LogicVision Stockholders Approve Merger with Mentor Graphics
Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ:MENT) and LogicVision, Inc. (NASDAQ:LGVN) announced that LogicVision stockholders have voted to approve, and the parties have closed, the previously-announced merger. Former LogicVision stockholders will receive 0.2006 share of Mentor Graphics common stock in exchange for each share of LogicVision common stock.
Jazz Semiconductor to Replace GaAs Components with SiGe Technology
Jazz Semiconductor, Inc., a Tower Group Company (NASDAQ: TSEM, TASE: TSEM), announced it is targeted at replacing GaAs components in high growth markets such as millimeter wave and front-end components of cellular phones with its enhanced SiGe BiCMOS process, IP and design enablement offerings. Virage Logic to Acquire ARC International
Virage Logic Corporation (NASDAQ:VIRL), the semiconductor industry’s trusted IP partner, announced its intent to acquire publicly held ARC International plc (LSE:ARK), a leading provider of consumer IP to OEM and semiconductor companies globally. The proposed acquisition would expand Virage Logic’s ability to serve the global semiconductor market by complementing its existing portfolio of physical IP and standards-based advanced interface IP with ARC’s widely accepted processor IP, a necessary component for complex System-on-Chip (SoC) integrated circuits.
GE Fanuc Automation Joint Venture Dissolves
GE (NYSE: GE) and FANUC announced that the two companies have agreed to dissolve the GE Fanuc Automation Corporation joint venture. This agreement would allow each company to refocus its investments to grow its existing businesses and pursue its respective core industry expertise. GE and FANUC expect the transaction to be completed by the end of this year, subject to satisfactory customary closing conditions.
