Sans Digital Launches EliteNAS EN104L+, EN104L+B NAS Rackmounts

Posted by Ken Cheung in Networking on Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Sans Digital, a leading provider of high performance storage subsystems, is launching off its brand new EliteNAS series with a set of 1U 4-bay network attached storage rackmounts. With 1GB DDR-2 ECC memory, the EliteNAS EN104L+ / EN104L+B is the industry’s first NAS to utilize Intel ATOM 330 1.6GHz 1MB cache Dual Core processor with Hyper Threading Technology.

FreeScale, Marvell, and other ARM processors have been the common choices when designing network attached storages. Sans Digital is the first storage brand to integrate standard Intel processors in both its compact and rackmount enclosures. The previously released MobileNAS MN4L+ tower utilizes Intel Pentium M processor to achieve over 50MB/s in performance. On the other hand, the newly designed EliteNAS EN104L+ rackmount utilizes Intel Atom 330 processor with Hyper Threading Technology, where four virtual processors perform IO calculations simultaneously, to achieve an even faster performance of over 80MB/s per Gigabit connection. With dual Gigabit Ethernet, the EN104L+ combines two Gigabit Ethernet ports into one, to provide fail-over or active-active balancing for both ports via a single IP address. The dual-port allows uninterrupted data transfer during a port failure, as well as increases data transfer speed.

Snapshot, Folder Replication, and iSCSI Initiator and Target features are included at no additional charge. Snapshot and Folder Replication help simplify the backup administration process of these units. The iSCSI feature allows the EN104L+ to act as a direct attached expansion unit to a host computer, and includes the popular Virtual Computing application with VMware and Hyper-V.

“Until now, the storage market has yet to come up with an affordable NAS rackmount system with adequate performance for enterprise-level data storage,” said Grandy Chen, Sans Digital President. “The EliteNAS series solves this problem by utilizing multithreading, sharing the workload between four processors to achieve a performance breakthrough.”
