SEMATECH Makes Breakthroughs in Controlling Parasitic Contact Resistance

SEMATECH’s continued leadership in developing, screening, and characterizing new materials, tools, and processes that enable CMOS scaling and emerging technologies will be further demonstrated during the 2009 VLSI Technology Symposium on June 15-17, 2009, at the Rihga Royal Hotel in Kyoto, Japan. In one area of investigation, technologists from SEMATECH’s Materials and Emerging Technologies program have demonstrated significant reductions in Schottky barrier height and contact resistance that are critical for continued enhancement of device performance in future technology nodes.

Adaptive Digital Supports Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol

Telegesis Launches ETRX3 ZigBee Module

Telegesis, the world’s largest manufacturer of ZigBee modules utilising technology from Ember Corp have released their most advanced ZigBee solution to date. The ETRX3 is the 3rd generation of advanced ZigBee modules from the UK ZigBee specialist and the first module on the market to feature the latest ARM® Cortex M-3 based EM357 SOC from Ember. VDC Research Comments on Intel – Wind River Systems Acquisition

In a mammoth, $884 million deal, Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) announced on June 4, 2009 its intent to acquire Wind River Systems (NASDAQ: WIND). The aggregate price tag puts approximately a 44% premium over the June 3rd closing price of $8.00 per share for WRS common stock. After this acquisition, which is expected to close this summer, Wind River would operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel and report into its Software and Services Group.

Apple iPhone 3GS Features Old Hardware

With the launch of the Apple iPhone 3G S, and the repositioning of the iPhone 3G as a device targeted to more mainstream mobile device buyers, Strategy Analytics believes that Apple has missed an opportunity to more effectively broaden the appeal of its iPhone portfolio. In a new report, “iPhone 3G S: New Improved UX, Same Old Hardware,” Strategy Analytics Wireless Device Lab research team argues that Apple’s strategy fails to tailor the size and physical interface of its device to the needs of segments outside of its primary target group.
