Home Appliance Platform Features Altia Design, DeepScreen HMI Tools

Posted by Ken Cheung in EDA Tools on Friday, March 27, 2009

Altia, Inc. announces that its HMI development tools, Altia Design® and Altia DeepScreen® have been selected for use in its “Energy Aware” home appliance platform. Altia HMI software provides embedded systems developers with the capability to create complete custom graphical user interfaces and graphics code without programming graphics. These working interface prototypes are quickly deployable to an Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) Cyclone® series FPGA and provides power line networking capability to home-appliance applications with LONWORKS® Power Line transceiver board from Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON).

With Altia Design, prototypes can be created from the user’s graphic assets or from a comprehensive collection of pre-built library components. Using widely available graphics tools like Adobe® Photoshop® in conjunction with Altia’s Photoshop add-on, artists’ graphics can be turned into reusable assets and imported into Altia Design. Once complete, the Altia Design prototype can be integrated to a simulation model and shared with development teams, managers, domain experts and customers. Testing and verification of behavior happens early in the development cycle, thus saving time and the need for costly hardware mock-ups.

Once a tested and validated Altia Design GUI is complete, the prototype is turned into usable C code by Altia DeepScreen. DeepScreen produces deployable code for Cyclone series FPGAs by leveraging Altera’s Nios® II processor for all graphical operations. Altia’s software tools allow developers to seamlessly create stunning color graphics comprised of a full set of rendering features – vector objects, bitmaps, text, alpha blending, and transformations like scaling and rotation.
