Kontron extends its family of embedded 3.5 inch (102 x 147mm) Kontron JRexplus Single Board Computers (SBC) with the new Kontron JRexplus-DC based on the 45nm Intel Atom N270 processor. Designed for use with PCI-104 expansion cards based on the PCI-104 standard, the Kontron JRexplus-DC offers price-optimized performance for developing a wide range of extremely flat small form factor designs.
The new Kontron JRexplus-DC offers high processing performance at a low power envelope of only 10 Watts. Designed for highest efficiency, system developers benefit from the front panel connectors that are located in the same place on all standard Kontron JRexplus products for easy and fast design-in. In particular, developers of extremely compact devices benefit from the PCI-104 interface that enables the use of PCI-104 extension cards for developing application-specific solutions. Compared with conventional PCI-104 boards, the 3.5 inch Kontron JRexplus-DC offers a richer set of standard interfaces to fully exploit the possibilities of the onboard processor and chipset and reduce the need for internal cabling. These factors predestine the Kontron JRexplus-DC for a wide range of embedded applications that require maximum performance in a low power Small Form Factor design. Examples include applications in the gaming, digital signage, POS/POI and kiosk sectors amongst others.
Equipped with the mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset and ICH7M south bridge, the Kontron JRexplus-DC Single Board Computer supports up to 1 GB of DDR2 RAM via the SO-DIMM slot and offers a wide range of interfaces. For hard drives and other storage media, the Kontron JRexplus-DC offers 2 x SATA and 1 x PATA interfaces. There is a Gbit Ethernet port for extremely fast network data exchange as well as an additional 10/100 Mbit Ethernet interface. The Kontron JRexplus-DC also comes with 6x USB 2.0 ports (2 on front panel) and 2x RS232 interfaces as well as 1x LPT, floppy and PS/2 Mouse. There are also 4 x GPIO and a CF card on the back side. With on-board TPM 1.2 (Trusted Platform Module) the board offers data and license protection. Power supply is via the ATX conforming 10 pole connector. Kontron also supplies the connector cable and adapter if required.
In addition to the DVI-I for digital and analog video output, LCD flat panels with resolutions up to UXGA (1600 x 1200) are controlled directly and with minimum cost via the JILI30 dual channel LVDS interface for which there are already a large number of cables for different types of displays. TTL flat panels are connected via an LVDStoTTL adapter.
The new Kontron JRexplus-DC Single Board Computer supports Windows Vista, XP, XPe, CE and Linux and is available in Q2, 2009. Like all Kontron JRex products, it is delivered plug-and-work for shortest time to market and to reduce customers’ design-in periods.
