Xilinx to Demonstrate, Present at Embedded World 2009

Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) announced its participation at Embedded World 2009 in Nuremberg, Germany from March 3 through 5. The company will demonstrate and present advanced embedded processing technologies that deliver enhanced system-level performance, design flexibility, and increased productivity for a broad range of applications in areas such as industrial automation, automotive driver assistance, and infotainment.

Dual Processor System Running on Linux
Demonstration showing the distribution of connectivity related tasks (Ethernet) and computation related tasks (jpeg decompression) through dual soft processors, implemented on a Virtex(R) FPGA. Using the PetaLinux operating system, developed by PetaLogix, on dual MicroBlaze(TM) processors, the reference design increases performance and integration levels on the board, while providing additional safety by separating tasks and protecting memory via a memory management unit (MMU).

Real-time Video Image Decompression and Filtering
Demonstration of a video processing application showcasing real time video image decompression and filtering via co-processor accelerators, implemented in the Virtex-5 FPGA fabric. Jointly developed with Impulse Accelerated Technologies, the processing application leverages the high-performance Virtex-5 FXT device with built-in PowerPC(R) 440 processors on the ML510 Evaluation Platform, a TFT display, and web-based filter control – resulting in an image that can then be modified on the fly via a web browser interface. By distributing software across multiple processors and accelerating critical code segments via FPGA coprocessor accelerators, software code performance can be increased significantly.

Industrial Ethernet on Xilinx FPGA
Demonstration showcases the value of the low-cost Xilinx Spartan(R)-3 FPGA family for multiple Ethernet-based field-buses used in industrial and automation applications. Supporting EtherCAT, SERCOS III, and Ethernet POWERLINK real-time Ethernet protocol standards, the FPGA platform and IP improves designers’ productivity by providing a re-programmable, flexible, and easy to use technology accelerating development of complex network topologies.

Spartan-3A DSP FPGA and DaVinci DSP Co-processing
Demonstration of performance acceleration in digital signal processing on the Extended Spartan-3A DSP FPGA and DaVinci(TM) DSP Evaluation Platform from Avnet Silica. Incorporating the Spartan 3SD1800A FPGA and a Texas Instruments TMS320DM6437 DaVinci DSP, the platform answers real-time signal processing and accelerated performance needs in applications such as video surveillance, automotive, and machine vision.

Driver Assistance Processing Algorithms
Demonstration of a lane departure warning image pre-processor, illustrating the transition from PC-based image analytics algorithms to FPGA-based hardware. A lane marker detection algorithm with model tracker sub-system processed on an Extended Spartan-3A DSP device showcases an FPGA implementation method utilizing Xilinx System Generator for DSP software as a plug-in toolbox for The MathWorks Simulink(R) software modelling environment. Also highlights accelerated algorithm testing with hardware co-simulation performance.

Intel In-Vehicle Infotainment Companion Chip Solution
Demonstration of a PCI EXPRESS(R) scalable interfacing solution. The solution leverages the seamless connectivity and flexibility of Spartan-3E devices acting as a companion chip to the Intel Atom platform.
