MontaVista® Software, Inc., the leader in embedded Linux® commercialization, announced that MontaVista Linux now provides support for the ARM1176JZ-S[tm] and ARM1176JZF-S[tm] processors, including the first ever big endian support option for the ARM11[tm] family in a Linux environment. By supporting these ARM11 family processors, MontaVista gives consumer device manufacturers a commercial-quality Linux implementation along with tools to reduce time-to-market and development costs for custom SoC designs.
“ARM® is constantly pushing the envelope when it comes to performance-to-watt ratio, and the ARM11 processor family gives unparalleled performance while doubling battery life,” said Patrick MacCartee, director of product management at MontaVista. “This is paramount for our customers who also aim to push the envelope as they design smarter, faster mobile and multimedia designs that must create a rich user experience while maintaining low power.”
“Being first to market is critical in today’s fast-paced consumer electronics markets. Combining MontaVista’s proven commercial operating system, tools and support for big endian code together with the widely established ARM11 family-based SoCs enables partners to bring high-quality products to market faster, thus lowering overall development costs,” said Kerry McGuire, director of Strategic Software Alliances, ARM. “MontaVista also offers an array of support options and services to help speed customers’ projects, from live support staff to power management and graphics solutions.”
