BiTMICRO Networks, a pioneer in intelligent flash solid-state drive solutions, announced at the SC Conference 2008 (SC08) International Conference in Austin, Texas the first customer shipment of its E-Disk Altima 4Gb Fibre Channel solid state drive (SSD). The drive, a 128 GB E-Disk Altima FC SSD, was shipped to Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd of Israel.
Part of BiTMICRO’s enterprise-ready E-Disk Altima SSD product family, the 3.5-inch 4Gb Fibre Channel E-Disk® Altima[tm] E3F4FL solid state drive is targeted towards volume data transfer applications such as streaming video on demand, data mining, data warehousing, online transaction processing (OLTP), medical imaging, and data recording. It is expected to take full advantage of 4Gb FC technology by targeting sustained rates of up to 230 MB per second and up to 55,000 I/O operations per second.
The E3F4FL solid state drive delivers a record-breaking storage capacity of up to 1.6 TB by utilizing the latest high-density single level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory chips. This allows data center administrators to handle ever-increasing amounts of data while leveraging the performance benefits of 4Gbit FC technology. What’s more, the E-Disk® Altima[tm] E3F4FL solid state drive can be integrated seamlessly with legacy FC-based storage networks since it is fully compatible with older 1Gbit and 2Gbit FC devices.
“Reflecting our commitment to continuously develop and build high quality solid state drives, we were very pleased at how the E-Disk Altima 4Gb Fibre Channel SSD came together and successfully passed performance and manufacturability tests for engineering prototypes with flying colors,” said Rudy Bruce, Executive VP for Marketing and Sales and CMO of BiTMICRO Networks, Inc. “The enterprise storage market is primed for the entry of solid state storage devices, and our company believes that the E-Disk Altima solid state drives will deliver outstanding storage performance required by IOPS-hungry commercial applications,” added Bruce.
Visit BiTMICRO Networks at Booth 3014 of SC08 (sc08.supercomputing.org/). The event runs from November 15-21, 2008 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. SC08 is the premier international conference for high performance computing (HPC), networking, storage and analysis, and this year’s edition marks the 20th anniversary of the first SC Conference, then called Supercomputing, held in Orlando, Florida in 1988.
The conference will feature the latest scientific and technical innovations from around the world. Bringing together scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, programmers, system administrators and managers, SC08 will be the forum for demonstrating how these developments are driving new ideas, new discoveries and new industries.
