A high computing performance, huge on-board flash memories and an extreme low power dissipation distinguish the MSC EXM-IMX31 CPU module, which will be presented by MSC Vertriebs GmbH at SPS/IPC/DRIVES in hall 7, stand 394. The compact CPU module with a form factor of 65 mm x 90 mm complies with the recently disclosed EXM32 system-on-module (SOM) specification and is specifically designed for harsh environmental conditions.
The innovative MSC EXM-IMX31 module is based on a Freescale ARM11[tm] 32-bit processor with a clock frequency of 533 MHz. On-board DDR2 memory with a maximum capacity of 256 MB as well as up to 64 MB NOR and up to 4 GB NAND Flash memory are available.
A wide variety of interface controllers ensures a simple connection of external devices. In addition to two USB 2.0 ports and two UART interfaces, two CAN 2.0B and two I²C interfaces are available. Via the LAN interface a fast 10/100 Base-T Ethernet connection can be established. A two-channel SPI interface, an AC97/I²S audio interface and an 8-bit camera port complete the interface offering. For data storage interfaces for PCMCIA and SD/MMC memory cards are provided. All CPU functions including the processor bus are accessible via the EXM32 connectors.
The integrated graphics LCD controller with MPEG encoding hardware and hardware drawing acceleration offers a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
According to the EXM32 specification, the board is specified for the operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C (400 MHz) without any active cooling. In order to satisfy the requirements in industrial applications, the CPU module features a high resistance to shock and vibration and meets the automotive specification DIN EN 60068 (Environmental Conditions for Electrical and Electronic Equipment for Road Vehicles).
Thanks to a particularly robust and shock resistant elastomeric connector technology, the MSC EXM-IMX31 CPU module can easily be mounted on the baseboard. If required, additional EXM32 modules – for example interface board – can be stacked on top of each other.
For evaluation and design-in of the high performance MSC EXM-IMX31 module, MSC offers special development platforms and starter kits. Board Support Packages (BSPs) are available for the operating systems Windows® CE and Linux, and upon request also for QNX.
