IAR Systems Debuts Version 3.10 of Embedded Workbench for Atmel AVR32
IAR Systems has announced the launch of IAR Embedded Workbench® for Atmel AVR32 Version 3.10, the latest version of the world’s only professional tool chain for AVR32 microcontrollers. IAR Embedded Workbench now supports all Atmel AVR32 devices, including the AP7 and UC3 families, and introduces enhanced emulation and trace debugging support, code checking to the MISRA C:2004 standard, multi-file compilation, and the integration of IAR visualSTATE into the IDE.
Intellitech Introduces UltraTAP-BT Bluetooth IEEE 1149.1 / JTAG Pod
Intellitech Corporation, the leader in lowering electronic product costs through IEEE 1149.1/JTAG, has announced UltraTAP-BT, a Bluetooth enabled IEEE 1149.1/JTAG pod with non-volatile test program and failure memory. The Bluetooth wireless capability brings the convenience, ease-of-use and low cost appreciated in consumer products to IEEE 1149.1/JTAG test. The UltraTAP-BT is designed to allow plug-n-play test and FPGA configuration without a computer, cable and software. 1149.1/JTAG based tests are executed from the UltraTAP-BT Flash memory. Since there is no software overhead or PC bus architecture, tests execute at a continuous test clock rate of up to fifty megahertz. Failures are stored for retrieval via a Bluetooth enabled device. The autonomous operation of the UltraTAP-BT enables new capabilities and lower cost for 1149.X based test during PCB bring-up, manufacturing, burn-in and field-service. One Bluetooth enabled PC can control multiple pods, breaking the traditional “one PC software, one pod” model used in 1149.1/JTAG test.

Concept Engineering Offers Free Graphical Engine for EVE Platform
EVE, the leader in hardware/software co-verification, and Concept Engineering announced that they have signed a long-term, worldwide partnership agreement. Under terms of the agreement, Concept Engineering will offer a free, time-limited usage license of its graphical viewing software to design teams employing EVE’s popular emulation platforms.
Synopsys Unveils DesignWare SATA PHY IP for SMIC 130nm Process
Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS), a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, announced the immediate availability of the silicon-proven DesignWare® SATA PHY IP for SMIC’s popular 130 nanometer (nm) process technology, for use in host and device applications such as mobile internet devices, set-top boxes, solid state drives and optical disk drives. As a leading provider of connectivity IP, Synopsys has expanded the SATA IP portfolio by introducing the SATA PHY IP for the SMIC 130-nm technology, therefore enabling a comprehensive SATA solution, which also includes the AHCI host and device digital controllers as well as verification IP. Accessing all the IP from one provider allows designers to lower the risk and cost of integrating SATA interfaces into their high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) designs.
3Q 2008 Mobile Handset Shipments Continues to Grow
“Given the traumatic news ricocheting around the financial markets, one would almost expect mobile handset markets to have nosedived,” says ABI Research Asia-Pacific vice-president Jake Saunders. “However 3Q-2008 still delivered 8.2% year-on-year growth.” While mobile phones can be viewed in part as fashion accessories, they also impart other value propositions that are highly valued by end-users. Substantial improvements in key functional areas (e.g. memory, battery life, data speed, processor speed) are being noticed by end-users. Still, many are opting to remain on open contracts rather than upgrade their handsets and lock themselves into down payments for new phones and potentially expensive monthly commitments.
Data Translation Unveils DT9818 Embedded USB Data Acquisition Board
Data Translation announces the latest addition to its line of high performance, multifunction USB data acquisition boards for OEM’s. The DT9818 is aimed at embedded applications rather than the more common USB approach of connecting externally to the PC. Importantly, users do not need an external power supply since the module runs completely on USB power while at the same time offering ±500V galvanic isolation, a critical feature for industrial embedded systems.
Questa Multi-view Verification Component Library Supports IEEE802.3-2005
Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) announced that its unique verification IP solution, the Questa® Multi-view Verification Component (MVC) library, has been extended to support the IEEE802.3-2005 Gigabit Ethernet standard. Using Questa MVCs, electronic systems companies can reduce the development effort for verification environments required to validate and verify System-on-Chip (SoC) designs integrating high-speed Gigabit networking. All applications that require high bandwidth delivered by 10Gigabit Ethernet products, including high-performance computing grids and server virtualization and internet protocol television, benefit from using the Questa MVC solution. 10M/100M and 1Gigabit applications are also supported by the Questa MVC solution.
Mentor Graphics Chairman to Keynote GSA Semiconductor Leaders Forum
Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) announced that Walden C. Rhines, Chairman and CEO, will be giving the keynote address at the GSA Semiconductor Leaders Forum on November 5, 2008 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Rhines will present “Common Wisdom versus Reality in the Semiconductor Industry.” which will address the widely held belief that the electronics industry is entering a mature phase and the glory days of the high tech innovation are over.
STMicroelectronics Anounces DSP Library for STM32 Microcontrollers
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a world leader in microcontrollers, has announced a DSP library for its ARM Cortex-M3 based STM32 microcontrollers, allowing developers to take full advantage of the STM32 to host signal processing and control functions on the same core.
