Data Hunter Introduces Mini-G WiFi Wireless Module

Posted by Ken Cheung in Wireless on Monday, October 13, 2008

Data Hunter announces Mini-G “WiFi” module, new lowest cost $59 (~41EUR Quan.-1) to $39 (~27EUR Large-Quan.) embedded serial-to-”WiFi” module that quickly and easily connects User devices running embedded applications and machine-to-machine (M2M) to 802.11b/g wireless LANs with very minimal programming. Mini-G is a very compact size of 30×40mm, with battery save modes, embedded antenna or connector for external antenna. Advanced roaming features make it an ideal solution for mobile devices. Mini-G includes a full menu of Internet protocols and applications, enabling immediate and full – featured connectivity for embedded solutions.

For mobile devices, Mini-G supports seamless roaming between access points.

Power consumption is minimized with several sleep modes and the ability for the host application to turn off WLAN, power requirements are minimized. In Deep Sleep mode, Mini-G power is only 30 micro-amperes, allowing battery operation for extremely long periods of time.

Wireless LANs have become the defacto standard for short and medium range wireless communications in M2M applications for embedded applications, point of sale, medical devices, equipment telemetry, and security applications. Mini-G can quickly “WiFi”-enable almost any electronic devices. Designers do not need to significantly reprogram their applications to connect WLAN using the Mini-G.

Simple text commands connect Mini-G and offloads the WiFi drivers, Encryption and networking protocols, and all communication tasks from the host application. This frees up host processing time and greatly simplifies the wireless design process.

Encryption: Mini-G includes the latest wireless WPA and Enterprise encryption algorithms and serves as a firewall, protecting the embedded application from the Internet. SSL encryption gives secure encryption all the way from the serial ports, over the wireless link and to the end applications. Mini-G supports 64/128-bit WEP, WPA1, WPA2, WPA-Enterprise encryption, AES-128/256, SHA-128/192/256, 3DES; the SSL3/TLS1 protocol for a secure client socket session SSL and a secure FTP session.

Mini-G WiFi supports 10 simultaneous TCP/UDP sockets; two listening TCP sockets; SMTP, MIME, POP3, FTP, Telnet, and HTTP/HTTPS clients; an embedded Web server with a website for the host application and one for configuring the module; as well as SerialTunnel[tm] Serial-to-IP locked bridging.

Industrial temperature range -40° to 85° C. RoHS-compliant. Mini-G module and Developer Kits shipping now, info@datahunter.com, Tel: +1714.892.5461
