Gleichmann Announces NEC NL6448BC18-01, NL6448BC18-01F TFT LCD Modules

Posted by Ken Cheung in Components on Wednesday, October 1, 2008

NEC LCD Technologies’ 5.7-inch TFT LCD modules, NL6448BC18-01 and NL6448BC18-01F, consume approximately 50 percent less power compared to displays with cold-cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlight systems. These TFT LCD modules will – in the future – enhance the product portfolio of Gleichmann Electronics. By using a backlight system – based on highly luminescent white LEDs – an additional inverter circuit is not necessary. As a result, power consumption of the standard model NL6448BC18-01 (brightness 400 cd/m2) is reduced to 1.8 W and in the high-luminance version NL6448BC18-01F(800 cd/m2)to 3.3 W.

NEC LCD Technologies NL6448BC18-01 and NL6448BC18-01F 5.7-inch TFT LCD modulesMoreover, the LCD modules feature a comparatively high density of 140 pixels per inch, a wide horizontal as well as vertical viewing angle of 160 degrees, a high contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a fast response time of 18 ms.

Furthermore, the special way that the LEDs are arranged results in a significant reduction of the risk of damage due to exposure to shock or vibration. In addition, LCD modules with backlight systems based on white LEDs are thinner, lighter and more reliable than CCFL LCD modules.

A wide operating temperature range, from -20°C to +70°C, guarantees operation even in the most extreme conditions. Data sheets of the 5.7-inch LCD modules, NL6448BC18-01 and NL6448BC18-01F, are available now. Engineering samples are expected to be available from October 2008 and volume production will begin in November 2008.

Founded in 1979, Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH, in the same company group with MSC Vertriebs GmbH, has established itself as one of the leading pan-European distributors of electronic assemblies and components. One of the reasons for the high acceptance by customers and suppliers is the company’s early focus on comparatively few, highly sophisticated products such as microcontrollers, programmable logic devices, displays and customer specific power supplies. From this, the resulting in-depth technical know-how of our sales engineers and field application engineers today enables us, if required by the customer, even implementation of complete new designs right up to the finished product. With two of its own ASIC design centers, the Gleichmann research laboratory in Austria and one of the largest and most modern programming centers in Europe, Gleichmann Electronics takes a leading role in terms of service and customer support.
