Lanner Electronics announced the launch of the latest product in its line of network appliance platforms and the first to support four-core Intel® Core[TM] 2 Quad CPUs – the FW-8750. The Lanner FW-8750 uses the Intel Q35 Express chipset and LGA 775 socket to support Core 2 Quad CPUs up to 3.16 GHz, providing faster, cooler and lower power operation for CPU-intensive network applications.
“We’re very excited about the prospects for the FW-8750 as a mainstream network application platform,” said Will Chen, CTO of Lanner Electronics. “By providing support for quad-core Intel CPUs, we’ve built an appliance platform that achieves outstanding performance for multi-threaded applications, and its high throughput PCI Express expansion capability lets us put a lot of power and flexibility inside a 1U appliance.”
The FW-8750 achieves significant performance gains by utilizing quad-core processors, while the efficient design and extensive customization features of the Q35 Express chipset lets Lanner partners build superior network computing platforms with plenty of room for future expansion. Built to be fully customizable and scalable, the FW-8750 supports a base of six RJ45 GbE ports, and includes an optional expansion module for an additional four RJ45 GbE ports or four SFP fiber ports. The FW-8750 also comes equipped with two pairs of bypass-enabled ports for high availability, and can be customized with a range of Cavium and Lionic deep packet inspection (DPI) acceleration cards for increased performance in network security applications. With the addition of up to 4GB of dual-channel DDR2, this system can be fully optimized to fit the needs of today’s ever-changing network landscape.
“The FW-8750 is a testament to Lanner’s many years of experience in board and appliance platform design,” said Chen. “With over 20 years of experience in designing and building Intel-based platforms for advanced network applications, our customers trust our products to deliver the performance and reliability they expect.” As a member of the Intel Embedded and Communications Alliance, Lanner leverages the latest Intel technologies to bring groundbreaking network solutions to reality.
The Lanner FW-8750 is available immediately, and provides an optimal platform for a wide range of network applications such as gateway security, WAN acceleration, UTM and VPN systems.
