The Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) announces the release of the EXP 3G-SDI Module. Based on National Semiconductor’s LMH0340/0341 3G-SDI serializer and deserializer, the new EXP module is designed to address the challenges faced by today’s broadcast and professional video product designers.
The EXP 3G-SDI Module enables rapid device evaluation and system development when used with the low-cost Xilinx Spartan-3A DSP FPGA baseboard. Included with the module is a development suite of FPGA information that enables rapid development of broadcast and professional video products and high-speed video applications by addressing both digital and analog physical interface requirements.
“Strong demand for 1080p production and higher resolution progressive format video is driving the rapid adoption of 3 Gbps SDI across the broadcast video industry,” said Erroll Dietz, vice president of National Semiconductor’s Interface Division. “The higher data rates and more stringent jitter budgets of 3G-SDI present video system designers with increased challenges to deliver SMPTE-compliant products to market on schedule. The EXP module from National Semiconductor and Avnet combined with Xilinx FPGA firmware provides designers a proven one-stop-shop for fast prototyping and development of SDI and video clocking designs.”
“Today’s high-performance broadcast video standards place numerous challenges on hardware developers. And now designers have the ability to rapidly develop broadcast and professional video solutions,” said Marc Gsand, vice president of technical marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas. “The new Avnet EXP 3G-SDI Module brings National Semiconductor’s award-winning triple-rate SDI and video clocking components together with Xilinx Spartan-3A DSP FPGA baseboards, offering customers a proven solution that utilizes high-performance analog, low-cost Xilinx Spartan-3A FPGAs, and a suite of high-performance video IP.”
