MagnaChip Introduces TA7601 a-Si TFT Chip for Smart Phones

MagnaChip Semiconductor Ltd., a leading provider of analog and mixed signal semiconductor products for high volume consumer applications, announced the launch of its a-Si TFT (Thin Film Transistor) chip, the TA7601, for use in smart phones. The TA7601 is a single chip driver IC that is designed for HVGA (320RGB x 480) LCD displays, provides 262,144 colors, has a 2.76Mbit SRAM for frame memory and supports SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), Parallel Interface (i80 compatible), and RGB Interface.

The chip is designed with power saving features, such as partial display and SMLC (Smart Mobile Luminance Control). In addition, it offers image quality enhancements including a separate gamma and Vcom tuning function.

Taeyoung Hwang, Executive Vice President and General Manager of MagnaChip's Display Solutions Division, said, "We are excited to bring the TA7601 to the mobile phone marketplace. As MagnaChip's first product to employ SMLC technology in a TFT HVGA single chip solution, this product is a landmark innovation for the company's smart phone display business.
