During the event, which runs August 4-7 at Moscone Center North in San Francisco, more than 200 exhibitors and thousands of Linux and open source users from around the globe will gather to explore the latest products and solutions, learn from industry leaders about emerging trends, and gather intelligence in broad-reaching educational and hands-on training sessions focused on key industry themes.
The LinuxWorld® exhibit hall floor opens on Tuesday, August 5 at 10:00 a.m. Exhibit hall passes are free on or before August 3, 2008 and will cost $50.00 thereafter. Register for free exhibit hall passes.
The LinuxWorld exhibit floor will feature companies that are driving the future of Linux and open source, including, ACCESS, CA, CISCO, Fujitsu, Intel, Talend, Ubucon, Novell, Bivio Networks, VMware, SugarCRM, Rackable Systems, Wind River, Oracle and many more. Many exhibitors consider LinuxWorld the perfect stage to announce their latest product and service offerings or other breaking news relevant to the Linux and open source industry. In addition to breaking industry news coming out of scheduled press conferences, many exhibiting companies are expected to use the LinuxWorld show floor to announce the public debut or general availability of their newest solutions, or as a place to spotlight recently announced or enhanced products. The following is a sneak preview of some of the products that will be showcased on the exhibit floor this year:
3LEAF SYSTEMS (Booth #1530) will announce the 3Leaf® V-8000 Virtual I/O Server V2.0. The technology delivers greatly simplified management and provisioning of large-scale server deployments, cost-effective disaster recovery, enhanced agility using modular building blocks for application provisioning, improved availability and resiliency using enhanced multipathing and solution deployment on commercially available x86 platforms.
ASTARO CORPORATION (Booth #1307) will showcase the new Astaro Smart Installer, which allows resellers and customers to quickly and easily re-image Astaro hardware appliances. Utilizing UDRW technology, the Astaro Smart Installer is recognized as a full USB CD/ROM loaded with the latest version, eliminating the need for new hardware or time-consuming downloads.
ELASTIX (Booth #1620) will be unveiling the new Elastix Appliance ELX-030, which offers everything you need to support up to 30 concurrent calls in your PBX. Bringing together the best available tools for Asterisk in a single, unified communications package with a rackable format, the Elastix Appliance ELX-030 is great for SMB IP PBX needs.
gOS (Booth #1627) will be announcing a new, third version of its Linux OS called gOS 3 Gadgets, which features Google Gadgets for Linux, WINE, LXDE and other Google native Linux software for an improved user experience. Attendees will have an early look at gOS 3 running on a wide variety of consumer netbooks and nettops.
HUMMINGBIRD – THE OPEN TEXT CONNECTIVITY SOLUTIONS GROUP (Booth #1419) will be showcasing Exceed Freedom[tm], designed to increase the productivity of X Window application users and allow organizations to streamline Linux infrastructure. As an add-on to Exceed® 2008 and Exceed PowerSuite[tm] 2008, Exceed Freedom reduces user downtime, lowers bandwidth costs and enables global access to Linux applications.
IPBRICK INTERNATIONAL (Booth #1244) will unveil the release 5.0 of IPBrick Intranet and Communication server OS and the arrival of its UCoIP – Unified Communications over IP solutions to the US market. IPBrick is an advanced solution that enables simple and integrated management of all communications inside and outside the organization. It enables users to be reached by their unique address (e.g. email@example.com) via Voice, Instant Messaging, E-mail or personal Web access. IPBrick will present its range of products and provide in loco presentations of several UCoIP implementation scenarios and new features of 5.0 by the developers of this new release.
OPENBRAVO (Booth #1515) is announcing new additions to its Openbravo Network family of products for businesses and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). The Openbravo Network family of products bundles access to certified updates and upgrades and a bug fixing guarantee to ensure the user is always up-to-date. Joining the already released Openbravo SME Network One, the new additions include Openbravo OEM Network for ISVs, tailored for independent software vendors (ISVs) that want to build commercial offerings on top of Openbravo’s ERP software, and Openbravo Base Network, designed for organizations that only need Openbravo ERP with professional support.
OPENMOKO (Booths #1234 and 1625), creator of the first completely open mobile computing platform, will be showcasing the Openmoko Neo Freerunner mobile phone, which first hit the developer market in July. This phone surpasses the Openmoko Neo 1973 that was introduced a year ago and includes open source software and hardware design files that enable developers to significantly modify the look and operation of the phone, bringing a new level of freedom and flexibility to consumer electronics and vertical market devices.
SPLUNK (Booth #1416) will demonstrate support for the Splunk for Virtual Server Management, Splunk for Windows Server Management and Splunk for Change Management solutions at this year’s event. The Splunk Platform is the industry’s first integrated approach to keeping infrastructure available, secure and compliant. Splunk collects and manages logs, configurations, messages, traps and alerts, and statistics from every IT component making the data available to any application for fast problem solving, threat response, compliance reporting or insight into user activity and transactions. Splunk customers can create their own applications on the platform, easily distribute their applications and download applications created by anyone in the Splunk ecosystem.
STONEFLY, INC. (Booth #1315), a leading supplier of integrated IP storage area network (SAN) systems, will announce the availability of server virtualization capabilities for all of its IP SANs through certification with both the Citrix/Xen and VMware platforms. In addition, the company will unveil for the first time its new SAN-based encryption capabilities for the StoneFly Integrated Storage Concentrator (ISC) line of high-availability IP SANs. Lastly, StoneFly will demonstrate, for the first time, its robust new StoneFusion 6.1 intelligent network storage platform, which is now being offered as a standard, integrated component of all StoneFly IP SANs to deliver block-level provisioning and centralized storage management, control and monitoring of logical storage volumes.
TEXAS INSTRUMENTS (Booth #1232) will be showcasing several new products: Beagle Board, Logic’s Zoom Mobile Development Kit, the OMAP35x Evaluation Module (EVM) and Cogent’s CBS740 – OMAP3530 SODIMM. Beagle Board is an ultra low-cost, high-performance, low-power OMAP35x-based platform. This fanless, single-board computer is based on Texas Instruments’ OMAP3530 processor that features an ARM Cortex-A8 core device family and has the expandability of today’s desktop machines. Logic’s Zoom Mobile Development Kit, based on TI’s OMAP3430 Processor, provides developers with an affordable, more realistic system for development and validation. The OMAP35x EVM includes code/software (DVSDK) to provide a complete hardware and software platform for evaluating all OMAP35x processors.
Trusted Computer Solutions, Inc. (TCS) (Booth #1407), a developer of security applications that run on the Linux Operating System, will announce new compliance features for both the standalone and enterprise versions of Security Blanket[tm]. Security Blanket is the industry’s most comprehensive system lock-down and security management solution that enables system administrators to automatically configure and enhance the security levels of Linux operating systems. The new features of Security Blanket provide compliance guidelines for organizations with industrial control systems (ICS), companies that process credit card transactions (PCI) and government agencies accessing classified data. The product supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 4 and 5, CentOS versions 4 and 5 and Oracle Enterprise Linux versions 4 and 5.

NEW! InstallFest for Schools: On the expo floor at LinuxWorld, Untangle and GES will be organizing a massive InstallFest to donate open source (Ubuntu) computers to schools in need. The hardware will be supplied by the Alameda County Computer Resource Center (ACCRC), which is recycling discarded computers from businesses, government and the general public. LinuxWorld attendees are encouraged to join the InstallFest by hacking older hardware, installing Ubuntu or donating unwanted computers.
NEW! Open Source Voting Demonstration: The Open Voting Consortium (OVC) has teamed-up with LinuxWorld to host a demonstration of open source voting at LinuxWorld. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to use an open source voting system to cast a mock ballot for the 2008 Presidential election, vote for a People’s Choice Award for the best new product at LinuxWorld and witness how the votes are tallied and available for recount using this system. The balloting area will be located on the show floor and the polls will close on Thursday, August 7 at 3:30 p.m. with final results announced shortly thereafter.
Dice Technology & Engineering Career: Returning for its second year at LinuxWorld, Dice, the leading job site for technology professionals, will host a free, one-day Technology and Engineering career fair at on Wednesday, August 6 in Room 135. This is the perfect opportunity for high-tech professionals to meet face-to-face with recruiters from the world’s leading Linux and open source companies at one of the largest technology conferences of the year.
Golden Penguin Bowl: The wildly popular game show returns with host Jeremy Allison, co-creator of Samba. Three geeks will line up against three nerds and match intellectual wits in this battle for who can recall the most inane trivia regarding sci-fi, high-tech, Linux and all things geek. The game takes place Tuesday, August 5 at 4:40 p.m.
LinuxWorld.com Product Excellence Awards: Come see the most innovative Linux and open source products receive recognition. The awards cover a wide variety of open source solutions categories and are voted on by a panel of independent judges and industry experts. Winners will be announced during a ceremony at the event on Tuesday, August 5 at 4:00 p.m. at Center Stage located in the North Hall.
