RadiSys Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a leading global provider of advanced embedded solutions, announced the introduction of a COM Express module that targets high-performance portable implementations in areas such as medical and machine imaging, test and measurement, and communications. The Procelerant® CEGM45 is early to market with the lower power and increased processing capability of the 2.53GHz Intel® Core[tm] 2 Duo processor T9400 and the Mobile Intel® GM45 Express chipset, on a compact 95mm x 125mm module. Module options that support the Type 2 pin-out enable them to provide a powerful performance upgrade based on existing designs, while options for the Type 3 COM Express pin-out let device manufacturers keep ahead of the technology curve with performance-packed, future-focused designs.
“RadiSys is paving the way in COM Express product development by using the PICMG COM Express 1.0 standard to its fullest potential. By supporting both Type 2 and Type 3 pin-outs, RadiSys customers have the maximum design flexibility to choose the combination of features that best meets their current and future needs,” stated Joe Pavlat, President of PICMG, the open standards consortium.
With support for up to 8GB DDR3 memory, 6MB cache, and SSE4 SIMD instruction enhancements, the Procelerant CEGM45 provides the memory capacity and the advanced processing instructions that processor-intensive applications such as medical and machine imaging, test and measurement, and communications platforms need. In addition, the on-board MicroSD socket four SATA ports and single or dual Gigabit Ethernet provide increased data storage and transfer for moving or processing large images or data packets. Advanced power management capabilities and 45nm process technology help the devices support stringent power and thermal requirements, extending the viability of this high-performance module into expanded application areas.
“Manufacturers of imaging and communications equipment need next-generation processing performance as well as networking throughput, large storage and memory capacity and low power consumption,” said Wade Clowes, Vice President and General Manager of commercial markets for RadiSys. “With the introduction of the Procelerant CEGM45 COM Express module using the 45nm Intel® Core[tm] 2 Duo processor T9400, we give equipment manufacturers the ability to extend the life of their existing designs while forging ahead into broader, more compute intensive application areas.”
About Procelerant COM Express
RadiSys Procelerant® CE blades and boards are designed for embedded applications that require a standard processor and memory subsystem, but also modular flexibility to retain key design level IP on a separate carrier board. Procelerant CE products are based on COM Express®, a standard that provides a bridge from legacy interfaces such as PCI and IDE to new serial differential signaling technologies such as PCI Express, Serial ATA, USB 2.0, LVDS, and Serial DVO.
Because they are modular and standards-based, RadiSys Procelerant CEGM45 and COM Express products help equipment manufacturers shorten their time to market and reduce development costs. By removing the processor, chipset, and memory from the rest of the design, manufacturers can focus engineering resources on developing differentiating features and avoid the design churn that comes with implementing new processor generations. RadiSys also provides a wide range of COM Expert custom services that further accelerate customer time-to-market by supplying carrier concept definition and design, carrier schematic reviews, BIOS customization, and thermal design.
