On October 15-17, 2008, the 18th edition of IMEC’s Annual Research Review Meeting will take place at the Radisson SAS Royal hotel in Brussels, Belgium. The 2-day event includes presentations by prominent speakers from the semiconductor industry and IMEC; it brings industry executives and research managers together with senior IMEC research staff to exchange knowledge and viewpoints on upcoming technological challenges. Attending the IMEC research business forum ARRM will keep you up to date on evolutions, trends and breakthroughs in the semiconductor industry, an industry which is changing fast and broadening it scope, combining technologies to find innovative solutions for climate change and sustainable energy, ageing, efficient and affordable healthcare, clean water supply, ubiquitous communication, and mobility.
ARRM08 kicks off on Wednesday, October 15, with a reception at IMEC, giving everyone the opportunity to visit IMEC’s state-of-the-art campus. The theme of the plenary day, Thursday October 16, “Aspiring a better future through semiconductor technology” covers topics such as healthcare, scaling, sustainable energy and converging industries coping with social and environmental challenges. In the evening there is the executive ARRM dinner at the “Belgian Centre for Comic Strip” museum in the Art Nouveau setting of the Waucquez Warehouses.
On the second day, Friday October 17, “Towards ambient intelligence” there are 2 parallel tracks. Topics featured in “Track a” are wireless sensor systems, wireless communication, organic and flexible electronics for ambient intelligence. “Track b” highlights 3D opportunities and challenges, and the integration of new functionality on CMOS.
IMEC is a world-leading independent research center in nanoelectronics and nanotechnology. Its research focuses on the next generations of chips and systems, and on the enabling technologies for ambient intelligence. IMEC’s research bridges the gap between fundamental research at universities and technology development in industry. Its unique balance of processing and system know-how, intellectual property portfolio, state-of-the-art infrastructure and its strong network of companies, universities and research institutes worldwide position IMEC as a key partner for shaping technologies for future systems. IMEC vzw is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, has a sister company in the Netherlands, IMEC-NL, concentrating on wireless autonomous transducer solutions, and has representatives in the US, China, Japan and Taiwan. Its staff of more than 1600 people includes more than 500 industrial residents and guest researchers. In 2007, its revenue (P&L) amounted to EUR 244.5 million.
