IDC Releases Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker
The worldwide mobile phone market continued solid double-digit growth in the second quarter (2Q08) as competition in high-end devices heated up. According to IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped a total of 306.0 million units, an increase of 5.6% from the 289.7 million units shipped during the previous quarter and up 15.3% from the 265.4 million units shipped during 2Q07. Total shipments for the quarter were in line with IDC’s expectations, even as vendors cited economic challenges and changing demands within key regions.
Strategy Analytics Publishes Q2 2008 Global Handset Market Share Report
According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, global mobile handset shipments grew a healthy 15 percent year-over-year, to reach 297 million units in Q2 2008. Motorola surprised and held off LG to maintain the third spot in our global vendor rankings. Bonny Joy, Analyst at Strategy Analytics said, “Global handset shipments rose 15 percent annually, to 297 million units during Q2 2008. Despite much economic gloom, handset sales remain robust in emerging markets and the worldwide growth rate is, in fact, higher than it was at any time during 2007.”

Aeroflex has announced the release of version 1.7.4 software for the Aeroflex 3900 Series Digital Radio Test Set that includes support for Motorola’s Astro SmartNet[tm]/SmartZone[tm] systems. Included in this release is support for re-banded channels in the 800MHz band. This new software is available for all Aeroflex 3900 Series products currently in the field, including the 3901, the 3902 and the new 3920 Series.

The new Genesys release contains improvements to the reliability of artwork masks for electromagnetic (EM) verification and RF board manufacturing, along with modeling and user interface improvements. Aeroflex 3500 Radio Test Set Supports Field Test 6 Software
Aeroflex has announced the release of new software for its 3500 1GHz hand-held Radio Test Set to support Survey Technologies’ Field Test 6 Software. Now, users of the Aeroflex 3500 Series can improve and automate the acquisition, analysis and display of signal strength across a given terrain, as well as inside buildings. Field Test 6 has expanded the drive-test measurement concept to include indoor measurement and analysis for applications where GPS is not available. The hand-held capability of the Aeroflex 3500, along with the Field Test 6 software, now allows users to map out their building or geographical areas and find any sections that contain a weak signal. Armed with this information users can improve critical communications within those areas.
