u-blox Develops GPS module for Sapphire Speed Camera Detector

BG T&A, the Korean-based market leader in speed camera and radar detection equipment, has launched its new generation product, the Sapphire, using a cutting edge GPS module developed by u-blox, the leading Swiss provider of GPS receiver technology. The Sapphire, a joint development with Snooper, the market leader in GPS safety alert systems, combines GPS technology with databases containing speed camera location data to alert users, via voice and visual alerts, of impending speed cameras, speed limits and distance to camera.

Sapphire Speed Camera DetectorMeasuring a mere 53 x 105 x 20 mm, its sleek design and high gloss black surround with chrome rear casing makes it one of the most portable and stylish speed camera detection systems in the market. It comes with a 1.75 inch LCD display with up to 10 screen color combinations and offers additional features such as a mute button, an earphone socket for motorcycle use and a built-in rechargeable battery which means that there are no trailing cables.

The Sapphire offers users unmatched reliability thanks its built-in ultra sensitive GPS module, u-blox’ LEA-5S. The highly compact, easy to integrate LEA-5S GPS module features KickStart technology, which quickly detects GPS satellites even in difficult conditions such as those typically found in dense urban environments or covert areas with no direct line-of-sight to GPS satellites.

“We are proud that BG T&A has chosen u-blox GPS technology for their market-leading Camera Detector and Radar Detector solutions. The combination of our market-leading u-blox 5 GPS receiver technology that boasts unrivalled positioning accuracy and availability, with our partners’ industry-leading know-how helps Sapphire users drive more safely through the provision of accurate, reliable and up-to-date information,” said Adrian Tan, Vice President, u-blox Asia Pacific.

The Sapphire uses Enigma, the most comprehensive speed camera database available. As new speed cameras are installed, they appear live on the Enigma database within 48 hours. Users can download the new data immediately, 24 hours a day, every day, providing users with up-to-date coverage of most of Europe, including accident black spots, mobile laser sites and high-risk zones. Enigma additionally provides users with location information about schools, hospitals and other services making the Sapphire a fully comprehensive location-based service solution.

“Coupled with u-blox highly sensitive LEA-5S GPS module, which functions accurately and reliably in the most challenging environments, the Sapphire offers users best-in-class coverage around the clock,” said JW Choi, Senior Sales Manager at BG T&A.

The Sapphire is being showcased at u-blox’ booth i135 during the World IT show taking place in Seoul from June 17-20.
