MontaVista® Software, Inc., the leader in embedded Linux® commercialization, announced the Vision 2008 Embedded Linux Developers Conference, to be held at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, California, October 1-3, 2008. Hosted by MontaVista, with platinum sponsors, including Freescale Semiconductor, the Vision 2008 event will provide hundreds of embedded Linux developers with real-world tips, techniques, and tools to get the most out of open source software for their design projects. Early registration discounts are now available.
In addition to new product introductions and educational sessions on technical topics, Vision 2008 will showcase the latest development tools and hardware platforms from dozens of companies. Developers who attend the conference will learn new ways to accelerate embedded application development and to design improved functionality, performance, and power conservation for intelligent devices, from consumer electronics and networking hardware to smartphones and more.
At Vision 2008, more than 35 keynote presentations and breakout sessions will feature:
- Presentations by Linux industry speakers, including Jim Ready, MontaVista’s founder and CTO; Jonathan Corbet, editor of LWN.net; Christopher Hallinan, author of the #1 selling book on embedded Linux, Embedded Linux Primer; and dozens more top developers and technical experts.
- Multiple-session tracks focused on key topics, including the open source community, advanced Linux development, developing real-time applications, debugging, networking, system optimization, and a hands-on lab on developing applications for multicore processors.
- Birds-of-a-feather sessions for developers to exchange ideas about real-time Linux, power management, GPL licensing, and the Linux kernel.
- A full-day “Hands-on Device Driver Bootcamp” at the start of the conference to give developers hands-on experience developing embedded Linux device drivers.
To provide a platform for experienced developers to share their insights with the community, the Vision team has issued a call for papers. Presenters of papers will receive a free admission to the conference.
“Vision 2008 will be the educational event where embedded Linux gets real, presenting real-world techniques for designing real applications and real devices,” said Rusty Harris, president and CEO of MontaVista Software. “This October in San Francisco, Vision 2008 attendees will meet some of the top minds in their field and will learn about today’s hottest technical topics.”
Last year’s Vision conference was described by LinuxDevices.com as “Well-run and successful — a two-plus day event that featured a wealth of technical sessions and tutorials, along with a vendor expo staffed by many highly knowledgeable people.” This year’s conference will be even larger, presenting 20% more sessions on in-demand topics.
