NEC Electronics America, Inc. strengthened its mid-size industrial offering with the addition of four new amorphous-silicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) modules ranging in size from 8.4 to 12.1 inches from NEC LCD Technologies. The new modules deliver improved visibility for a variety of industrial applications, including factory automation equipment and measuring instruments that require excellent viewing performance to be able to display diverse content on screen quickly and accurately. Many of the models will be showcased in NEC Electronics America’s booth, #235, at the Society for Information Display (SID) Symposium at Los Angeles Convention Center, May 20-22.
The new lineup includes a new 10.4-inch (26 centimeters diagonal) module, part number NL6448BC33-74 with video graphics array (VGA) resolution and NEC LCD Technologies’ proprietary super-advanced, super-fine technology (SA-SFT), which delivers high transmissivity and wide viewing angles without compromise to brightness or color gamut.
In addition to an ultra-wide viewing angle of 176 degrees (both horizontally and vertically), high luminance of 400 candelas per square meter (cd/m2) and high contrast ratio of 700:1, the new module substantially reduces the color shift problem that occurs due to changes in viewing angle. These features enable information to be viewed from any angle easily and precisely in both portrait and landscape orientation and offer industrial designers advantages in terms of high visibility and compatibility.
NEC Electronics America’s new 10.4-inch module is compatible with its previous 10.4-inch standard display products in relation to outer dimensions, position of mounting holes and screen center. In addition, the new module maintains signal compatibility with conventional display module products supporting a VGA-type digital interface, which allows for easy replacement without the need to change any of the peripheral appliances.
NEC Electronics America also has added three other mid-size products. A 12.1-inch (31 cm diagonal) color TFT LCD module, part number NL8060BC31-41C, features super video graphics array (SVGA) resolution and NEC LCD Technologies’ proprietary super-transmissive natural light TFT (ST-NLT) technology that enables the display of vivid colors in environments with high ambient light. A 10.4-inch (26 cm diagonal) color TFT LCD module, part number NL8060BC26-30D, features SVGA resolution and a wide viewing angle, high contrast ratio and fast response time. An 8.4-inch (21 cm diagonal) color TFT LCD module, part number NL8060BC21-06, features SVGA resolution, high luminance and improved power consumption.
“Industrial applications continue to demand higher levels of performance from LCDs. The products introduced here represent another example of our longstanding commitment to offering innovative display technologies,” said Dr. Shigehiko Satoh, associate vice president and general manager, displays strategic business unit, NEC Electronics America. “It is our expectation that these innovations will allow customers to meet and exceed the ever-increasing display performance demands of the markets they serve.”
All four of the new modules feature a wide operating temperature range, from -20 to +70 degrees Celsius, ensuring operation even in the most extreme conditions.
