As of May 1, Strategic Test, one of the world’s leading suppliers of PC-based instrument boards, will equip all of its cards with 256 MBytes of on-board memory. With this larger memory it is now possible to record a 200 MSamples/s 8-bit signal for more than 1 second compared to only 320 milliseconds for a card with just 64 MBytes. The new larger memory applies to all of Strategic Test’s PCI and PCI Express cards, more than 100 models in total.
“We believe that Strategic Test is the first PCI instrument company to provide 256 MBytes as standard”, commented Bob Giblett, President, Strategic Test. “Other manufacturer’s cards are typically equipped with 32 MBytes, so if the user needs to record or generate longer signals they normally have to pay a heavy premium for a memory upgrade – this means in many cases the ST cards will offer terrific value.”
More memory is always considered a good thing, but for high-speed instruments it is often essential. The faster that you digitize or generate signals the sooner the limit of the PCI or PCI Express bus to continuously transfer data is reached. Memory size then limits the recorded or generated signal length and when the sample rate or output rate is millions of samples per second, that time becomes very short.
Prices of the PCI and PCI Express cards start at $3,499. OEM and volume discounts are available.
