eSOL, a leading developer of realtime embedded software solutions, announced that Casio has selected its PrKERNELv4 Real-time Operating System (RTOS) Suites for their EXILIM Card EX-S10 and EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80 digital cameras. To date, Casio has used PrKERNELv4 for their EXILIM® product lines, such as EXILIM Zoom EX-Z1200, Hi-Zoom EX-V7, and Zoom EX-Z1050. Because of its functionality, performance, and ease of existing application migration, Casio has decided to extend the use of eSOL’s software to these two brand-new EXILIM models.
PrKERNELv4, a multi-tasking kernel, offers task and memory management for realtime applications, and serves as the primary foundation within EXILIM Card EX-S10 and EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80. As the technology of the digital camera becomes more complex and the development time progressively shorter, the accuracy of the development is very critical. Casio has selected PrKERNELv4 because of its proven performance with their line of digital cameras.
Both EXILIM Card EX-S10, an ultra-thin, state-of-the-art 10.1 megapixel digital camera, and EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80, an 8.1 megapixel digital camera with high-quality movie capability, feature YouTube(tm) Capture Mode and iTunes Compatible Video Format. In addition to the existing face-detection function for automatic face focusing & brightness adjustment, the cameras also contain an Auto Shutter function, which automatically records the moment of a smile or the instant when a handshake ceases, using motion blur detection technology. EXILIM Card EX-S10 and EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80 embody a return to a stylish thin & compact form and a strong design presence. Moreover, the H.264 codec provides outstanding compression, which makes it possible to produce movies of high image quality with smaller data files.
“eSOL’s PrKERNEL is a compact, highly reliable realtime OS in terms of its features and capabilities,” said Jun Hosoda, Product Development Leader of Casio Computer Co., Ltd. “eSOL’s proven product and technology were the key factor in the continuous deployment. Specifically with this project, we could reuse our existing software, and this helped us to minimize the cost and development time.”
“We are very pleased that Casio continues to choose our software,” said Nobuyuki Ueyama, Executive Vice President of eSOL Co., Ltd. “PrKERNELv4 is a proven compact, high-performance RTOS for digital consumer electronics such as digital cameras, digital media players, and digital HDD camcorders. PrKERNELv4′s deployment in EXILIM Card EX-S10 and EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80 demonstrates Casio’s confidence that our products are effective, robust and reliable. We continuously commit ourselves to support software development for digital consumer electronics, with our superior technologies and services.”
