MtoDSP Ports Matlab M Files to Multi-DSP/FPGA Hardware System

Sundance DSP, a worldwide supplier and manufacturer of advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and reconfigurable computing platforms, advanced IP cores, libraries and tools announced MtoDSP, an advanced tool for porting applications written in Mathworks M language to Texas Instruments DSPs. The Mathworks M language is a widely used method for developing applications running under Matlab. However, to target a multi-DSP/FPGA hardware system from and M file and develop suitable embedded application is not an easy task.

MtoDSP is a brand new Matlab toolbox which, automatically builds an embedded application from an M file, targeting multiple TI DSPs and has extensions to support IO devices, like ADC/DAC, present in the system. Users can create Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) systems very easily. This comes after the successful launch of PARS, which can build an application targeting multi-DSP/FPGA systems from a single Simulink® model. Sundance DSP is currently beta testing MtoDSP and will make it available to general users after completing test at selected customer sites. There is a roadmap for supporting multi-DSP/FPGA hardware set ups within the next 3 to 6 months. Customers needing such support should contact Sundance to be considered for beta testing the software.

“Sundance DSP is excited to be at the forefront of developing tools that can let scientists and engineers focus on their application. Mathworks M file is a well known and widely used language for developing many types of applications for execution on the PC, and now the same applications can be executed on TI’s DSPs with no effort,” said Dr. Nory Nakhaee, the C.E.O. of Sundance DSP Inc.

Mr. Stephen Malchi, senior design engineer at Sundance DSP explained, “Programming TI’s DSPs is becoming easier and more productive with the introduction of tools like MtoDSP from Sundance. This tool opens the door to using embedded systems with multiple TI chips for applications written in M files. This is exciting news for all concerned.”

MtoDSP is priced at 5K US dollars for a single user seat and does not require run-time licensing. Site licenses are also available.
