ARC, Toshiba Team on Multicore Configurable Processor Technology

ARC International (LSE:ARK) announced that it has extended the collaboration with Toshiba that begun in 2006 to develop configurable multi-processor technology. As part of the agreement, Toshiba has extended their license for the ARChitect(tm) Processor Configurator, which offers a comprehensive set of design tools and resources to produce highly optimized processor designs. Details of the new engagement and examples of real-world applications including Toshiba’s configurable solutions will be provided in an executive presentation by Toshiba at the Multicore Expo Conference in Silicon Valley on April 2nd, 2008.

Semiconductor Chip Sales Grow by 1.5% to $20.44 Billion in February

Worldwide sales of semiconductors in February were $20.44 billion, an increase of 1.5 percent from February 2007 when sales were $20.14 billion, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported today. Sales declined by 4.9 percent from January when the industry reported sales of $21.48 billion. SIA said the sequential decline in February sales was in line with normal seasonal patterns for the industry.

WiMAX Users to Reach 133 Million by 2012

The WiMAX Forum announced it projects more than 133 million WiMAX users globally by 2012. The forecast is based on the results of an independently commissioned research study to be published in April 2008. Additional data from the study estimates that approximately 70 percent of the forecasted WiMAX users by 2012 will utilize mobile and portable WiMAX devices to access broadband Internet services.

Microchip Rolls Out MCP1790, MCP1791 High-Voltage Linear Regulators

Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, announced the MCP1790 and MCP1791 (MCP179X) high-voltage linear regulators (LDOs). With a continuous 70 milliampere output, the ability to operate at a continuous input voltage of up to 30V and load-dump protection up to 43.5V, the new LDOs are ideal for automotive and industrial applications. They also feature low quiescent current, shutdown current and ceramic capacitor stability, which enable smaller, ultra-efficient designs at lower costs.
