Electronics.ca Publishes Report on Automotive Semiconductors

Electronics.ca Publications, the electronics industry market research and knowledge network, announces the availability of a new report entitled "2008 Automotive Semiconductors." The newest market report reveals continued healthy growth for the automotive electronics market. The current forecast calls for annual growth of 9 percent on average, reaching a market value of $173.7 billion by 2013, from estimated sales of $114.5 billion in 2008. Growth in Driver Assistance, Safety Systems, and Entertainment is expected to be particularly strong, while the Consumer Retail, Powertrain, and Body Electronics segments are forecasted for slower growth.

Elma Bustronic Corporation, an industry leading designer and manufacturer of high performance backplanes, has developed new 2nd generation AdvancedTCA (ATCA) backplanes. The new ATCA backplanes have routing implemented for radial Intelligent Platform Management Bus (IPMB) signals. Radial IPBM provides dual segment access to every IPM controller even when only one shelf manager is present or operational. This is an important option for ATCA systems to provide higher reliability and redundancy.

OMG, Eclipse Offer Open Software and Standards Symposium

The Object Management Group(tm) (OMG(tm)) and the Eclipse Foundation are jointly organizing two, one-day symposia to promote and build on the partnership between Eclipse's open source software and OMG's open standards. The first event is part of EclipseCon 2008 in Santa Clara on March 20, 2008; the other is during the OMG Technical Meeting in Ottawa, Canada on June 25, 2008.

ABI Research Forecasts Over 90 Million 4G Subscribers in 2013

The total number of 4G subscribers worldwide, including both LTE and WiMAX, is expected to exceed 90 million in 2013, but a number of milestones must be passed en route, according to a new forecast from ABI Research. At the end of 4Q 2007, says the firm, there were nearly 3.4 billion mobile subscribers worldwide, with 2.7 billion on GSM/EDGE/GPRS networks.

Rockwell Automation Acquire Safety, Automation Business of CEDES

Rockwell Automation, Inc. (NYSE: ROK) announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire the Safety and Automation business of CEDES AG. CEDES' Safety and Automation business is a leading supplier of safety and measuring light curtains, as well as other safety and non-safety optoelectronics, control units and related accessories for industrial applications. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

STMicroelectronics Offers NicheLite TCP/IP Stack for Free

STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) has made the NicheLite(TM) TCP/IP stack available free of charge with its STR91x 32-bit Flash microcontrollers featured for networking applications, lowering cost-of-entry to that of open-source offerings but with the advantage of vendor support facilities. Compared to other third-party stacks, NicheLite is also royalty-free, helping manufacturers predict and manage their production costs.
