Impulse Accelerated Technologies, Inc. announced its participation at Embedded World 2008 in Nuremberg, Germany, from February 26 through 28. Impulse will conduct live demonstrations of its C-to-FPGA solutions, featuring Xilinx embedded processing solutions.

Accelerated PowerPC(tm) MPEG and JPEG Demonstrations
Xilinx and Impulse have collaborated on demonstration projects using the Xilinx ML410 development platform, which includes the Virtex-4 FX(tm) FPGA and dual PowerPC embedded processors. In demonstrations presented at Embedded World, two on-chip PowerPC processors are combined with Impulse C(tm) acceleration modules to decode and filter streaming video images. The demonstration highlights the advanced features of Virtex-4 FX FPGAs as well as showing how software-to-hardware design methods allow you to create accelerated, single-chip systems without the need for hardware design methods.

MicroBlaze(tm) v7 Soft Processor Demonstration
Impulse will also demonstrate how its C-to-FPGA tools have been used to create an accelerated DSP algorithm running on the MicroBlaze v7 soft processor. For this demonstration, Impulse C was used to offload a performance-critical DSP function for an overall acceleration of over 300X when compared to the software-only implementation, with no hardware-level programming required.

Conference Papers
Impulse C-to-FPGA solutions will also be featured in two conference papers being presented at Embedded World 2008:

  • Accelerating System Performance with FPGA-centric Hybrid Multi-Processing, to be presented February 26, 16.00 - 16.30
  • C-Language Techniques for FPGA Acceleration of Embedded Software, to be presented February 26, 10.00 - 11.00
