Xilinx to Showcase FPGA Solutions at TI Developer Conference

Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) announced that it will be showcasing its FPGA-based XtremeDSP(TM) solutions at the TI Developer Conference through demonstrations and training sessions.

Xilinx(R) FPGA Peripherals for Texas Instruments DSPs using VLYNQ communications interface products
The demand for flexible product differentiation at reasonable cost has brought DSP processors together with FPGAs, combining the benefits of C-language based software design with the re-programmable custom hardware of FPGAs. This session will demonstrate a combined Xilinx and TI design flow for the creation of custom FPGA-based hardware peripherals connected to DSP processors over a VLYNQ point-to-point serial interface. The presentation and demo will illustrate the process from both perspectives: that of the FPGA designer using Xilinx design tools, and that of the DSP software designer using a standard API to communicate with the FPGA-based peripheral from the C-language software design in TI’s Code Composer Studio(TM) Integrated Development Environment. The demo will feature the Avnet Spartan(TM)-3A DSP DaVinci Evaluation Platform, which combines TI’s TMS320DM6437 processor based on DaVinci(TM) technology with Xilinx(R) Spartan(TM)-3A DSP FPGA.

Surveillance System with FPGA-based LVDS Flat Panel Display
This demo uses the new Avnet Spartan-3A DSP DaVinci Evaluation Platform to extend the DaVinci processor peripheral set with an FPGA-based LVDS flat-panel controller. The DaVinci processor includes a video processing subsystem that provides the image sensor controller, performs scaling and streams the digital video to the FPGA, where it is decoded, gamma corrected and driven to the LVDS flat panel display. VLYNQ interface technology provides a seamless control interface through which the DaVinci device sends gamma correction look-up table updates to the FPGA, asynchronous to the streaming video. The design may be extended to include other dynamic control information over the VLYNQ communications interface such as image sensor Pan / zoom / crop control / Rotation angle / Region of Interest limits, etc.

DSP Video Starter Kit — Spartan-3A DSP FPGA Edition
The new Xilinx(R) XtremeDSP(TM) solutions Video Starter Kit — Spartan-3A DSP FPGA Edition can be used to evaluate the use of Xilinx FPGAs in a wide range of video and imaging applications. Xilinx FPGAs, such as the Spartan-3A DSP FPGA device, can be used as co-processors that complement TI’s DaVinci digital media processors for performing high performance functional operations such as analytics for surveillance.
