American Portwell Technology, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator and supplier of Internet Security Appliances, and a member of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance, announces new entry-level NAD-2065 desktop and NAR-2085 1U rackmount competitively-priced communications appliances that use Intel chipsets and Celeron® processors to provide high computing performance with low power consumption for edge network appliances. The fanless, low power NAD-2065 desktop and NAR-2085 1U rackmount are the ideal choice for system integrators (SIs), OEMs and software developers designing and implementing edge networking security applications such as network intrusion prevention/detection, spyware control, content filter, P2P control, instant message recording for small office/home office (SOHO) and remote satellite office.
Competitive pricing, easy expansion
“The new NAD-2065 desktop and NAR-2085 1U rackmount units provide a full Intel® solution and easy expansion at a competitive, budget-conscious price point,” says Mark Huang, American Portwell technology’s product marketing manager. “The Intel 852GM chipset includes an embedded Celeron® M 600 MHz CPU with 512 KB cache to provide superior reliability in a fan-less/low noise configuration. Onboard PCI and Mini-PCI slots ensure easy and wider bandwidth using ADSL, wireless, crypto or other add-on card/modules per our customer’s requirements,” Huang adds. “The units include up to six built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports to maximize network bandwidth.” According to Huang, the units also include: one bypass segment (fail-open/fail-close) and a non-bypass mode by power failure configurable; two 200-pin SODIMM sockets that support DDR266 up to 2GB; and support for a CompactFlash socket.
“The NAD-2065 desktop and NAR-2085 1U rackmount units can be built with both a 3.5″ hard drive and noise-reducing fanless solution simultaneously,” explains Huang. “In addition, the units include a reset button to revert the system to the manufacturer’s default setting. This feature is not available on commercial motherboard-based systems,” he confirms.
Faster access to core networks
“With the growth of the security-conscious network and de-centralization from the enterprise server, more and more users rely on the flexibility and power of edge network appliances to connect their small, home or remote satellite offices to backbone and core networks faster, more efficiently and more cost-effectively,” explains Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology’s product marketing director. “Edge devices also provide connections into carrier and service provider networks,” he adds. “The trend is to make the edge network ‘smart.’ Portwell’s NAD-2065 desktop and NAR-2085 1U rackmount edge network communications appliances more than meet this trend. And they do it by providing high computing performance with low power consumption at a competitive price point.”
