Radiocrafts AS, a leading supplier of wireless RF modules for communication in the license-free frequency bands, and Sensinode Ltd., a pioneering/commercial supplier of solutions for IPv6 over wireless mesh networks, launch a new platform for integrating the Internet with sensor networks. The IEEE 802.15.4 compliant radio modules from Radiocrafts combined with the 6LoWPAN compliant NanoStack from Sensinode offers integrators super compressed IPv6 over low power radios in a very compact module solution. The use of end-to-end open source IP technology over a proven radio platform provides an excellent and scalable solution for IP-based monitoring and control systems like AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) and WSN (Wireless Sensor Networks).
The Sensinode NanoStack meets the 6LoWPAN (IPv6 over Low power WPAN) specifications released in 2007 and offers a scalable and robust architecture for a wireless mesh network where all nodes cooperate to transport information almost like the Internet. By using many small radio modems, a low-power wireless network can cover large geographical areas using the license-free frequency band at 2.45 GHz. The self-configuring and self-healing properties of the 6LoWPAN network offer redundancy and low maintenance cost.
“The world is at a turning point for the wide-scale adoption of embedded wireless sensor networks, and one of the most exciting large-scale applications is AMI. The new 6LoWPAN IP-based standard promises sensor networks as the next frontier of the Internet. Super compressed IPv6 over the IEEE 802.15.4 radio standard yields open and scalable communication to embedded devices over the Internet. Our cooperation with Radiocrafts AS is an important milestone in our effort to meet the demand for an open, flexible and easily integrated industrial strength communication platform. Using pioneering 6LoWPAN technology from Sensinode combined with radio modules from Radiocrafts, our customers can focus on developing solutions and services into their operation,” says Zach Shelby, CTO of Sensinode Ltd.
“By adding 6LoWPAN solutions from Sensinode to our proven IEEE 802.15.4 compliant RF modules, we can now offer an IP-based wireless module solution for automatic meter reading, sensor and control applications,” says Peder Martin Evjen, Managing Director of Radiocrafts AS.
“The growing demand for wireless sensor systems, and in particular for robust low cost wireless IPv6-network solutions, is the foundation for the strategic business partnership between Radiocrafts and Sensinode. Working end products will soon be available on the market. Radiocrafts and Sensinode will demonstrate the new 6LoWPAN technology at Smart Metering Scandinavia 2008 in Stockholm, February 25-26,” says Endale Mitiku, VP Marketing & Sales of Sensinode.
About Radiocrafts AS
Radiocrafts is a leading RF module design and manufacturing company focusing on AMR/AMI and industrial wireless communication. Radiocrafts’ standard RF modules provide compact, easy-to-use, low cost, low power and high performance RF solutions for a large number of wireless applications using license-free ISM bands. Using modules OEM manufacturers without RF design knowledge can easily add wireless technology into their design, reducing time-to-market, cost of design, test and compliance approvals. Radiocrafts also offers customer and application specific product development, supporting customers from initial project ideas to volume product delivery.
